Oops! I made a typo/spelling error in a tag. What now? I hate to suffer the consequences but, that's what consequences are for, I guess....

Is "plane crashes" an appropriate tag for this thread?

Will there be carnage?

No, it wasn't me. Sorry.

Peace

Perhaps it would be wise to have a dedicated "Tag Mod" or two, judging by the amount of tags on this topic alone.

But apart from the occasional rogue entry, the system seems to be working wonderfuly, well done

I have joined the tagging bandwagon. I'm trying to use terms if something is not already tagged so that I can find all topics or threads with a given topic that I may be interested in and the search term that I may use later.

One thought that occurred to me would be to add the thread tag that each person used to their favorites list and allow sorting by the tag. That might not be needed though if it's so easy to find all similiar related threads in the future though.

Wow, now there's a glamorous job people would really want.

"Hey, I get to edit tags all day. Yayyyy!"

Well hey, you never know. I'm guessing the existing forum mods will be given that task to spread the drudgery around a bit.

Or not.

Still, being a dedicated "tag mod" sounds about as appealing as being the mod assigned to clean the barbecue sauce stains off Springer and Valhall's couch. (something of an inside joke there)

Again, I speak not for anyone but myself, but except for the occasional tag that violates the T&C, I doubt any special attention will need to be paid to tags.

Heck, even goofy “gag” tags serve a purpose.

I read somewhere about worrying about misspelling the tag. I wouldn't feel that bad. If someone misspells the word they are searching for, the misspelled tag may match what they wanted. I suddenly feel a need to find a spellchecker since now I see both words mispelled and misspelled on a google search.

Ok, I am officially a tagging points whore... I counted on that list and I have the 16th highest number of tags so far.

DragonsDemesne has added 138 total tags.

Heck, I'm ahead of the Skeptic Overlord, he only has 33 so far... maybe Simon Gray will give me his job...

anxietydisorder has added 4419 total tags.

You should change your ID to Obsessive_Conpulsive_Disorder
Wtg, you are the #1 tagger

There are a total of 13097 total tags on 9645 board threads. 5.2% of all ATS threads are tagged by members.

So if anxietydisorder has 4419 tags, then he has singlehandedly tagged over 1/3 of the total tagged threads, for nearly 2% of all ATS threads on the board. Holy shiznatz... I'm giving him a WATS for that.

Okay, I was being a pesimist, I just envisioned waves of "monkey faced dweeb" in Bush threads or "Pinko nonsense" in global warming threads
But I'm sure one of the mods will sweep up the debris from time to time

hi , i have started tagging my threads , and ones i have submitted to - but am now confuse , wondering " have i done it right ? "

i tagged this thread :

www.abovetopsecret.com...

` uav drones unmanned ` - should i have used ` uav , drones , unmanned ` instead ???

i want to help - but there is no point if my taggs just make thing worse

Wow, the tags work sooooo much better for me than that search function!! I've already used it a bunch!!

And I don't think a few oopsies will be much of a prob. And if one person words their tag one way, someone will come along and word one the other way around, and both tags will bring up the thread......it a blessing for us dyslexic types!!

Because each member has a limit on the submitting of tags (max 5 tags at a time, max 30 characters, only add tags to each thread once), there will be lots of tagged threads which needs to have other tags added to the existing tag/tags they already have. I know I have many threads I would like to have added a few other tags too. But I am not allowed to add more tags to those threads myself (after I have already submitted one or more tags to them). Now I can only hope that someone else will add the missing tags to those threads. Tags which will be suitable for many threads are the country tags, like i.e. "iraq", "iran", "russia" or "china".

Well, I picked a forum and went to the very beginning of the posting, i.e., the last page and worked forward giving a tag to each one. The process got easier as time went by as I would pick tags from my autocomplete list, adding new ones as needed.

Maybe if those who are interested set up systematic approaches such as this, the tagging could be more orderly and complete. There might even be some collaborative effort on the part of certain motivated individuals.

Thanks Val

Some questions have arisen from members as to the validity of the tagging that I have done on the ATS domains. I am stopping my tagging efforts at 5000 tags until I hear back from ScepticOverlord as to the validity of my tags.

I seem to be the front runner in this event, and I sure hope I'm not doing it wrong.

But in my opinion, no tag is a bad tag.......... Unless it's misleading.

You keep right on tagging until you get tired of tagging! Your tags are fine... I've looked and see no problems.

We appreciate the effort.

I quoted your u2u in another thread, but wasn't sure I wasn't just skewing the stats because of my entries.
But the work I'm doing will depend on other members to follow up with tags that denote subject matter in each thread. The more tags we have on each thread, the better the whole system will work.

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, it's off to tag I go...........

OK, maybe I'm blind or just stupid but, I can't find these "stats" anywhere...can somebody tell me where this info is located?

just curious...

BTW - tagging is fun! Fun, because you can't do it well unless you actually read the threads and there's some good stuff back in the old posts.

This link takes me to the page that lists all the members that place tags:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

In the top left you'll find a link to "list all tags"

Edit to add -

Al Davison has added 144 total tags.

I would have done it either Unmanned UAV, drone or uav, drone, unmanned. I either like to be as specific as possible or as vague as possible.
