Well, therein lies the loophole.

maybe not for this instance, but for others

Perhaps you could send a u2u to the Mod that gave you the penalty, and continue this discussion with the party directly.

Let's continue on with tagging every thread in the ATS/BTS/PTS universe and stop quibbling over semantics.

Only 12,819 threads have been tagged so far and there are 184,466 threads to tag. If you want some fast points, go find some old threads from 2002 and put five relevant tags in each one. Tagging just ten old threads with five tags each will give you 1500 points.

Anyway, I'm gonna bail out of this one and go tag some stuff..................

For cases when it is slander.

Such as when an ATSNN article, is talking about slander it should be used.

However it is my understanding that for a thread you only get 30 characters and then you only get the set amount of points no matter if you use 5 or 30 letters.

So tagging 10 old threads AT 30 points a pop should only net you 300 points.

Do I understand this correctly?

I haven't paid very close attention to the points.
One Man Short Of Manhood is right. I wanted to test it, so I just added 4 tags to an old thread and saw that the tag count went up by 4, but the point count went up by 30.

I stand corrected.

Tagging 50 old threads with one tag each will give you 1500 points.
That only takes about 20 minutes if you copy and paste relevant key words........

I notice a lot of threads are started and there are no tags attached.

Wouldn't it be better, if, when we start a thread, to enter a couple of tags after hitting the post button? That way, you will be the one who gets to tag it with what you think your thread is about and not leave it up to someone else to figure out.

just a thought...

If everyone tagged the threads that they start that would inliminate the need to go back and tag after the fact.

I'd also like to see members follow one other piece of advice.
"If you read it, tag it".......
It only takes a second, and all the current threads would quickly be done.

Only two threads have "Tag, you're it", but type something like "UFO" and you'll get hundreds of hits. But I think SkepticOverlord has some plans to implement a system of searching tags that will refine what your looking for.

ok..took a couple of DAYS but I did my S.L.I.D.E.R.S tagging project...lots of good link ups now going way back.....

I'm not sure on one thing, and maybe someone knows.
Can I tag a thread wiht the user name of the person that started the thread, or even the names of members that have given a lot of replies to that thread?

I noticed tags like SkepticOverlord and other names, so I just wondered if tagging a bunch of threads with the author's user name would get me a 1000 point warning?
I dont have many points yet, so I don't want to take a hit.

In my opinion, that'd be a no. Because there is a "search for posts" feature on the forums, which would kind of elimate the usefullness of that tag.

I won't tag stuff with user IDs, but I will tag some stuff to build up my points.

Believe me friend, after you get the profile upgrades that you like, then you'll just start building them up. So if you'd like my advice, don't be in a hurry to get them. Try to make quality posts, over quantity.

To inspire more tagging (still less than 8% of all threads are tagged), I've increased the value of tagging older threads.

Now...

Threads between 1 and 2 years old will earn 50 points
Threads older than 2 years old will earn you 75 points

Ah...what a wonderful opportunity for all those wishing access to RATS and purchasing those little extras like U2U space, etc...

That's an excellent idea, considering that most of the un-tagged threads are the older ones.

So far after this has been going on for a bit I must say wow what a great idea
It does make searching a lot better "for me of course"

Preliminary search feature. Once we have more tags, there will be additional options.

Although this is a GREAT feature, i'd like it if inapropriate tags like swearing/cussing is automatically refused so users can't even ATTEMPT to do it, i'm sure there will be a number of curious members that wonder what will happen if they enter the F-word or something
