Fish, the trick for me...and this is just me is to simply allow my body to go to sleep while i'm still thinking. It's that simple. Very uncomplicated thinking. I know, I know everyone says you need to meditate and clear your mind and all of that spiritual stuff, but if I start thinking of what I want to experience then I will certainly experience it in the astral world.

I find the more I think about lucid dreaming before I go to bed the more I have. It seems I have so much experience with lucid dreams now every dream I have at one point or another I think about it and realize im dreaming.

That encourages me zenlover, if the same technique works for me then ive already got far enough to leave my body. You say all you have to do is wait until your body shuts down but do you have to visualize leaving your body or what?
In my experience everytime I start dosing off, I practice pulling myself in and out of sleep a bit then I put physical pressure on my body so try and leave it. Its funny, my body is immobile but I can still use muscles to give myself the feeling of forcing myself out of my body.
Is this the wrong approach? Lately ive been coming to the conclusion that to pull my non-physical body out of my physical no physical effort is required. Rather I should make more of a mental effort.
By the way how long have you had to ability to leave your body and have you much experience at it?

By the way AkashicWanderer, I see 5 words on your avatar so that would make it a pentagrammaton, not a tetragrammaton.

Lostboy; it does take an imagination in my experience. I see here where others claim that their experiences are real and not just a creation of their own mind. I see where they think they are flying to the moon and the stars, etc. and who am I to negate their experience. I'm not going to. I'm just going to say that it has become my realization that it is all a creation of my mind. I write the story and get to experience it exactly how I write it. But, i'm aware that i'm the one creating it all with my mind.

What are the consequences of OOBEs
Consequences of OOBEs include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Greater awareness of reality.
- Personal verification of our immortality.
- Personal development.
- An increased desire for answers.
- Obtaining personal answers.
- Psychological change.
- Increased respect for life.
- Increase in knowledge and wisdom.
- Knowing instead of believing.
- Increased inner peace.
- Increased zest for living
But don't take my word for it , direct experience is what counts.
and how do you know how to get back in your body?
Astral projecting is simply being conscious of the dream world, or the astral plane. Much like dreaming, any sudden emotion will bring you right back to your body. The desire to come back to your body (in the form of thought) will also awaken you.

well, that is definetly a very positive way to look at it, and that list alone should put most of us at ease who want to experience OOBE's. Good job.
I would like to try it as well, i am able to relax my body to the point that it feels lighter than air, and i am completely paralized...only by mental suggestion........is this correct? what should i follow after? the rope climbing theory?
I have sometimes experienced a sudden jolt awake, sometimes suddenly enough that i almost react like someone was gonna hit me...not violently, but enough to move me over in the bed. I read in another topic that this could be due to muscle contractions/contradictions-- I don't remember the dreams now...but when it would happen, i would have a very vivid picture of the "dreams" i was having. I at least think they were dreams. I can't explain the dreams though, it's like a story that doesn't make sense......like the movie "you got served" but what i would like to know....do you guys/gals think i could have been traveling without knowing it? or was i just figity?
