The Three Amigos and our Senior Staff have decided it may be a good idea to have an Official Mentor Program here at AboveTopSecret.com.

We are looking for Members who are patient, knowledgeable, kind hearted, good teachers.

The idea is to take a few New Members under your wing and teach them the ropes. We have the "unofficial Adopt a Newbie Program" that is very similar in intent to what we want to do here.

We are still working out the specifics but I think it will be a great concept IF anyone is interested in becoming a Mentor.

Please let me know in this thread if you are so interested.

YES there will be "perks" that come with the job...

I'm up for that.

Once the details are worked out I'm sure this will improve the board and its membership.

I'm sure many new members join and don’t post because they feel like they don't have the 'tools' to make contributions.

I'm willing to help as much as possible. I teach by example, & I have a hands on, hands off approach to how I teach. Their hands are on, Mine are off. That way they learn thru doing, thru action of their own.

This is the best way to teach, & I train people at work all the time. Everyone I've trained has taken to it extremely well.

I'll do it!

Soon...I shall have enough minions that I shall be able to carry out my diabolical plan!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!

What plan is that, wcip?

Look, how many times have I told you?? It's get minions first, THEN come up with the diabolical plan. Do I always have to be the only evil genius around here?!

Riiiiiiiiight~

Now...where are those minions? Millions, and MILLIONS of minions!! All for me!!

I'll help, if it is deemed I am worthy enough by the Benevolent Dictator and his Underlings.

Been here a while, post lots, on every day, although when I am at work I can't access chat (I still post though......what? You expect me to work?)

I am also a stickler for grammar and spelling, which I feel is lacking sometimes, so I will try and get the newbies to adopt a posting style that makes it easy to read and understand.

This is an excellent idea. Since you're still working out the specifics, I would recommend new members are assigned to a mentor and both the mentor and the new member are immediately notified. The mentor, as well as helping them with the intricacies of navigating the board and using it's features can monitor their posts from the get go and work with them one on one via U2U if they are posting outside of T&C and maybe save some of them from crossing the lines of acceptable behavior or basically blowing it from the start. (I see this happen a lot). They could also be able to U2U in an official capacity to other members who slam new members not taking the time to realize they are new and cut a little slack (not scare them off).

I think this could really be a good way of getting the new members in the swing of things and past the pitfalls that some of them experience.

I would be up for it (whether you want me to mentor or think I need to be assigned to one myself.
).

If you can get past me being none of the above then I'm in.

Great idea, BTW.

That is, of course, unless I am one of the ones who needs "mentoring."
