hey
i have seen so many topics and read so many things on this site that i cant believ that there are still the same qs going on. ofcourse everybody has the right to grow up and experience the same questions and same themes as many of us has already lived trough, but i must say i miss a piece of adulthood here.
most people of good ol days have gone, and i think thats sad. there was a time i saw people here gain knowledhge and get to some kind of "working towards a goal of uncovering truth" but nowadays i only read topics made by small kids that didnt do any research before they post anything. not that i am the best researcher on the net...) i am merely saying that i would love to talk to people who do more than asking the same questions and give the same stupid answers. maybe after reading everything on these sirtes theres nothing to learn anymore cuz the rest is just not for my eyes, but geez its irrii

and when someone comes up with something new and not heard off it gets burned to the ground by the same kids becouse they want to be conspirisialists and seek the thrill of being a smart coockie with a big mouth. being a conspirisialist means you look beyond the thing that is obvious. and that is something i really miss these days on the ats web.

"smartness". heh. if smartness was encouraged, I'm glad I missed that little period in ATS history. now intelligence, that's another issue entirely.

Spot,

have to agree with a lot of what you said.
But what passes for discussion on a lot of these sites is really hard slugging between the right and left.
That is really the problem IMHO.

i agree almost entirely! but how can the kids be smart when they are being taught that way, i shuld know i'm a kid, but i taught myself, i'm smarter than all of my young friends by miles, i seem to have a strange manner of thought compared to the rest the world i dunno how to describe it

i would think u should be glad to see more younger ones in here, even if they dunno what their talkin about as of yet, they need a place to learn, and if the board is full of them, we need the smart ones like us to tell them whats really up

I'll lay out some basic terms for everyone:

knowledge-
The state or fact of knowing.
Familiarity, awareness, or understanding gained through experience or study.
The sum or range of what has been perceived, discovered, or learned.

intelligence-
The capacity to acquire and apply knowledge.
The faculty of thought and reason.

wisdom-
The ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight.
Common sense; good judgment

awareness
Having knowledge or cognizance
Archaic. Vigilant; watchful.

Here at ATS, we share knowledge with others so they may grow in wisdom and gain intelligence and understanding by being aware of the truth.

Set the example,
If you wish to learn, contribute what knowledge you possess to others.
Whenever posting news or whatnot, do not only post the article, or flat information, but, include your own analytical speculation on the article. Bring up questions which require comprenhension, analyzation, and discussion.
By spawning threads on various issues, you create discussions which will develop into heated and educational debate.

Help ATS,
Be yourself and love yourself,
In this, we may attain true "smartness" as you say Spot.

On that issue banjoe, remember our great brother Mark Twain,
"I will not let my schooling hamper my education."
He had it going on.
Cheers.

For the record.
When someone new discovers this forum and they post something that you have discussed many times previously, they are not aware of how many times you have hashed this out before, because they were not here.

Your post sounded rather arrogant in nature, for someone who used very poor grammatical skills.

I don't normally pick a post apart for that reason, but when you make a post calling a majority of new members childlike, it sticks out as Ironic.

IMHO when someone makes a complaint post about the "good ol days" and "old school people", it is often an attempt to portray themselves as better than everyone who is not "old school".
This is not healthy for a growing community. It causes new posters to feel unwelcome.
I have greatly enjoyed my first week here, however if this community is about the "cool kids" versus the "new kids".... I am not interested in staying.
Frankly being called a kid as though it is an insult is not cool in a forum where I have seen many teen posters with some brilliant insights.
I thought this place was here to share thoughts and ideas.

If you did not intend to sound like you were looking down your nose at us, please correct me.

and again... for the record... I am 31 years old.

Pay attention kiddies...She just imparted some wisdom here. In a nutshell, she's saying that "Maturity is not directly proportional to physical age."

I've seen the truth of this in my own nephew while he was growing up. I've seen him display a consistant growth in maturity throughout his whole life. By the time he was 10 years old, I could say that I've met with 30 year old people who weren't as mature as he was...

i wasn't here in the glory days, but if you want to improve you're signal to noise ratio, use the search feature to find the posts of members you respect.
smartness, no?

Iv seen alot of ignorant posts here, but they usually come from new members who in time grow wiser and post much more educated questions.

And remember you two were a New member once.
And it is very insulting to be known as the new ignorant members.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Most new people just don't bother using that feature though.

Although I am not supposed to use the term... even though I am using it on myself... I AM A NEWBEE!

I know where my iterests lay, those are the forums I will most attend. Occasionally, while awaiting a response, I'll check the Today's Posts, scan, find something interesting, and if it is worth it (or if my opinions are not there), maybe I'll add something. I do use the search function, for both subject and author. While I may not be the most... internet swavy person, I have done research, I do study topics. There will be some things I may just have a personal feeling about.
When it comes to the forums, I like a good debate. I love to see the pros and cons of an issue (just in case, I'm a gemini). Sometimes I argue for the sake of an argument... this isn't saying I try to bully my opinion on others... there's a few times I've placed my opinion in the "for" section and spoke my point, when in fact I am "against". A forum is a forum, a place where people can gather their thoughts, adapt, learn.
If more research is needed, then why not simply remove the "reply to post" and replace it with "add link here"? BECAUSE sometimes, people may learn more by conversing with others, then by simply being pointed in a direction and told "here. this is all you need".

Soothsayer- We were all n00bs once to this. As time goes on we all learn and then in turn impart our knowledge, wisdom, all of it to those that are new. Spot is not seeing the reason for these posts. It is because there is an influx of new people. With new people bringd curiousity and sometimes they are unable to coherently express themselves. This comes with time. If you wish to listen to those that are quality posters i advise you to watch Dragonrider, MaskedAvatar, And several others.
