You have a point - BUT - this is way bigger than racial profiling. It's class profiling. And it's setting us up to accept new quarantine rules and travel restrictions.


The CDC recently proposed new quarantine rules to deal with epidemics in the USA. Several stipulations stand out:

1. People can be quarantined on suspicion of illness, without a confirmed diagnosis.
2. Quarantine does not include treatment.
3. Quarantined people are not allowed to travel or leave their assigned area.
4. No promises, commitments or guarantees are made to ensure adequate food supplies are delivered to quarantined areas or people.

Ive yet to see old white ladies flying jumbo-jets into highrise buildings crammed with people, but I do know for a FACT that most terrorist acts are committed by Muslim males.

So why not profile the people that are the highest risk?....why should everyone be treated like a terrorist? Instead Miami is spending all its resources on a "show-of-force"......thats stupidity in its purest form.

Oh yeah - The terror angle is just a convenient cover story to get everyone used to the police state. And quarantine travel restrictions.

here's a little story about racial profiling for y'all. please note that there are instances where I agree with it, instances where I don't.

that said, a few years back there was a rash of car jackings along an off-ramp leaving or entering (can't recall) Miami International Airport. murders, car thefts etc. it was out of control. Cops started to stop and question young african american men between the ages of 18 and 35 or whatever the range was. The african american community was up in arms over the racial profiling. 60 minutes did a story on it. Lots of local and national leaders in the african american community were interviewed. They all expressed their disgust in the concept of racial profiling.

fast forward a few years. September 11th came, some middle eastern fellas killed around 3,000 americans via the use of planes they hijacked. Airport security was beefed up and men who looked to be from the middle east were being forced to undergo heavier scrutiny than their more anglo looking counterparts. Reports of middle eastern men being asked to take another flight because "the passengers were frightened" made the news. Racial profiling all over again.

60 minutes ran a story on it. They also interviewed many of the same local and national black community leaders to guage their views on the profiling of middle eastern men between the ages of 18 and 35 (or whatever it was).

Nearly every black man interviewed said he totaly understood it now.

Does that make it right? No.
Does it make it more clear that these people are doing a job and following the only leads they have? It should

In NYC there was a terror threat that apparently involved men or women with strollers. The mayor and the chief of police asked that you not bring your stroller to the subways unless it was absolutely necessary.

If you got stopped and searched because you had a stroller, would that be wrong? no. is it profiling? absolutely.

(don't start in on the illegal searches nonsense as that is not the point here and even the aclu searches your bags before letting you enter their offices).


I'm sure there are many instances where the police take the profiling too far and take advantage of the situation and search for harrassment reasons or for some other reason but, for the most part, if the cops are on the lookout for a xxxx male aged xx to xx and you fit that category, you'll be under a closer watch.

one of the many prices we are forced to pay when a group of individuals commit an act that goes against the laws of the lwe live in. It's another form of punishment that they are enforcing upon us. Without it, they'd be able to commit more of these acts and break more laws and possibly kill more innocent people. Don't blame the authorities, blame the individuals that broke the law and forced the authorities into the act of racial profiling. Prior to the carjackings the black community wasn't complaining about harrassment.

See, it's easy to say profiling's ok when you've never been profiled. When you have been profiled, though, by cops and regular people, for some reason you don't like it. And I still stand by my earlier comments. It's even better because the European Americans who will continue to be profiled will, for the most part, have no clue what's really going on...

not what I was saying. I was referring to this specific case to point out that sometimes racial profiling is a necessary evil and that in the case of those carjackings, even the african american community admitted that, after 9/11, they understood the reasoning.

I do think that african americans are under a constant racial profiling to varying degrees and used that one case as a means of showing that sometimes it is needed. In the case of those carjackings, the victims all described black men between a certain age range so yeah. the cops are going to pay more attention to anyone fitting the description.

lastly, no matter what you were to say, I would't bash you. I see no point in it. this is a discussion board, not a bashing board. it won't help anyone learn something, it won't convert someone's thinking or help someone see anything more clearly. nope. I prefer the calm, controlled conversation. Not only does it have greater impact, it further infuriates the bashers.
