Researchers at the University of California-San Fransisco and the University of Texas have modified the bacteria E. Coli, to take pictures of
themselves. Scientists have been using synthetic biology to configure microscopic bugs to act like machines. Thus, in turn, creating cheap means of
producing drugs, plastics, and alternative fossil fuels. To me this is pretty remarkable, however it does pose some ethical questions.
If we are making these simple bacteria act like machines now, what will the future hold? Will we move to more and more complex organisms? Even though
this is a small step, it could lead to much bigger ones.
