Douglas Adams said this best when he described the number of planets in the universe as none. Reason being that if space is infinite and we know that not all space is occupied by planets then the volume of planets is smaller than the volume of space and any number smaller than infinity is as close to zero as makes any difference. Therefore the simple fact that we can count some planets renders space not infinite, as least in the way most people percieve ie, it just keeps on going & going...

This question has been plaguing me for a long time. It can't just end. How could it? I'm not sure I agree with the original theory of smaller and smaler universes, but DOES our universe end?

Or how about tihs: You travl in a straight line from earth: if you keep going, wuld you eventually get back to earth?
Argh! It boggles the mind.

There's no possible way that we can assume anything right now because humans have never been that far and we don't have the technology to do so at least not for now. So right now it's anybody's guess!!!

although I would THINK that it would stretch to infinity.......who knows?!?
