We need to start building a wall with enough troops across it to prevent terrorists from immigrating with WMD or biological weapons into the country. Also we have illegal bird trading that might spread the avian flu to america from forein countries and if we act now to prevent it we may slow it down. We are too vulnerable in our own country and it needs to be stopped but when they finally decide to do something it will be way too late. I know there are probably some terrorists in america waiting already with means of destruction, so even a big wall and alot of troops will not stop the threat but the fact is that we have not done a thing to prevent them from comming in. Basically there is nothing we can do about the situation because even the great wall of america cannot stop the threats of todays world.

Are you being serious?

Where would this wall be built. Also there are plenty of terrorists already here.

Walls dont usually work anyways anymore. its just like cannons making castles obsolete centuries ago. no doubt its a waste of money.

Not a stone wall, more like 2 parallel barb-wired and maybe electric fences all the way across and 1 troop within every 200 feet or so to keep patrol and of course openings for traffic that check everyone thoroughly. Maybe more strict rules for bringing in forein animals because i do not want that damn bird flu.

Yeah the wall is a waste of money, what we need is increased cooperation between US and Mexican Border Patrols. But with this situation how it is, why would Mexican Border Guards really care if people are illegally immigrating to the US. It only affects them in a sense that diplomatic pressure can be placed on Mexico to increase the size of their borderforces. Here at home we could begin to penalize businesses who hire illegal workers who have no visa to work here. I know it is cheap labor and good for business, but if you want the situation to stop something has to be done about businesses who hire them as well.

Hum . . . a wall, well I guess barbwire is of no used if tunnels can be build under, right?

A stone wall would not be of any use either.

What a nation to do

Oh, lets not forget that birds also comes from migration, so. . . should we sit in the borders and shot any birds that comes across also?

Its not like they stroll around with these things pre-made. Terrorists get into the country and start pulling the peices together. The only way to stop this is make a wall around the entire border, abandon alaska and hawaii, and prevent anyone from going in or comming out, at all.

Anything less and there will still be terrorists crossing the lines.

Also we have illegal bird trading that might spread the avian flu to america from forein countries and if we act now to prevent it we may slow it down.

The flu is spread by naturally migrating wild fowl. It cannot be stopped from comming to america. The response is what has to be worked on.

even the great wall of america cannot stop the threats of todays world.

When an attack happens, the american people will dust themselves off, grab their guns, and go and kill the people that helped it to happen, whether they're in the US or anywhere else in the world.

what we need is increased cooperation between US and Mexican Border Patrols.

Any cooperation between governments is instantly seen as a move to install the NWO and destroy american sovereignty.

The simple matter is that a nation can't survive a seige very long. Look what Athens did when it was hiding behinds its walls, it executed Socrates, of all people, for treason. Even without a wall around the US, the seige mentality is still there. The US cannot protect itself domestically from things as simple and powerful as terrorists. It can only go out into the world, convince people not to attack them, by hook or by crook or by force, and then kill the ones that still want to attack them after that.

How about spending about 10 percent of the defense budget to hire enough federal agents to allow the government to do the job of enforcing immigration laws that are on the books? You know, the one that makes it a crime for employers to hire illegals, or the one that makes it a felony to reenter the US after being deported,... Many other laws already in place.

How about taking some of that money and building 100,000 or so new beds in immigration deportation centers to hold immigration violators after they are caught instead of turning them back onto the streets to await their immigration hearings?

I say spend money to do this and most of this open border nonsense will stop.

Take some of those hundreds of billions of dollars spent overseas and use it here to let the HS do its' job right. If they do this the wall idea would not be needed I dont think.

Well we'd need a lot of Mgrant workers to buid a wall that big so we'd have to open up the borders. We should also cut all school funding to pay for it and might as well drop any environmental funding as all the fossil fuels necessary to build the wall is gonna costs us. Once the wall is finished the FBI should inspect any tunneling schools for possible terroists. The key to finding them would be that they wouldn't want to learn how to get back over the wall just under it.

I'm licking this thread it is so Dumb

Well...they have sonar and can detect tunnels but i guess nothing will prevent them so it is wasting money and time. Enforcing laws inside that are in place more stricly and/or making new laws will probably be helpful. Maybe opening the border is not a bad idea afterall because nothing can really stop illegal immigrants and terrorists it would seem.

Yes we need plans for when the flu is spreading like an nation wide alert system of where it is detected and immediate quarentine if necessary of those who are infected. I know it sounds bad but if we all want to live and survive we need to prepare for the worst as well as for a normal outbreaks. The vaccines are going to kill people and probably not work for long so maybe some more research on a vaccine that doesnt make you hallucinate and die.

Terrorists and the plaque cannot be stopped by any means it would seem, so sit back and hope the big companies that run the vaccine research and the national defense do the right things and make the right decisions.

A wall is no good if the bird with the flu just flies over it.

Bird flu is not being spread by flocks of migrating chickens, but migratory birds.

It will stop(or slow down) the illegal trade of birds directly from the infected countries and also maybe stop some of the terrorists who arent smart enough to build a tunnel. But you are right, the bird who carries the flu over the border does not care about the border or international flight laws so we are screwed on that.

first off keep your immune system as healthy as possible ... eat alot of vitamin c and crap like that... when i was younger i used to get sick twice a year now thank god i barely get sick once a year..... also we should have thousands of people with hawks station one every 200 miles so they can catch rats so you wont get the plague... and we should kill every child that is born weak and sick just like the spartans so we wont get sick and only have healthy strong people... what else should we do mr wis..es

Your wish is my command!

The Solution:

Why is a fence the right solution?
A secure, state-of-the-art border fence must be one element of any comprehensive effort to address the illegal immigration problem.

Similar fences in Israel have reduced terrorist attacks by up to 95%.

Until the border is secured and the tide of illegal immigration is stemmed, proposals to adjust immigration quotas, whether up or down, are doomed to ineffectiveness.

A border fence is entirely compatible with a guest worker program.

In fact, a guest worker program would be reduced to irrelevance without such a fence

Momentum builds for fence along U.S.-Mexican border.

By Mimi Hall, USA TODAY
A once-radical idea to build a 2,000-mile steel-and-wire fence on the U.S.-Mexican border is gaining momentum amid warnings that terrorists can easily sneak into the country.

Around 80,000 people a year die from the flu worldwide, so far around 60 people have died from birdflu. Then theres AIDS, Cancer, car acciedents etc. So many bigger health problems right now, not gonna buy into the birdlu paranio just yet. Was in Asia this past summer and ate plenty of chicken

SIRR1- Thanks for the links. It is quit an easy, simple, effective way of stopping illegal immigration and of course terrorists. But there is problems like them being here already and flying in on planes. It will not stop terrorists that have been waiting in america for months or years but the border problem is out of control. I think they should make this fence immediately and put more national guard and such on patrol. The threat of terrorists immigrating illegally is great so any measure-however small-must be taken.

"Around 80,000 people a year die from the flu worldwide, so far around 60 people have died from birdflu."

Well, that number of 80,000 will one year be 200 million-1 billion if this flu keeps mutating into the super-virus of the century. H5N1 has never in history, until recently, been in human beings like this. This is a cause for concern but the terrorism is more of a danger, and a danger that CAN be stopped.

I think Global Warming is many times more dangerous than terrorism. Look at natures wrath this year alone. Im not condoning or saying we shouldn't fight terrorists but it has existed for thousands of years and it aint stopping anytime soon. Every country on earth has you fair share of terroists.

Are you talking about just the US/Mexico border, or do you want to fence off our northern neighbors as well?

Your plan, for the US/Mexico border would require somewhere around 4000 miles of fence, and roughly 158,400 full-time soldiers to guard it (2000 miles of border times 5280 feet in a mile is 1,056,000 feet. Divide that by 200 feet, you get 52,800 guard stations. Assume a standard 8 hour shift on-guard, you have 3 shifts per day, so 158,400 soldiers. Probably make it an even 160,000 to cover vacations and sick days.)

Now if you expand that to both borders, you'll need 475,200 soldiers, round that one up to about 480,000 soldiers for the mentioned days off. That's the current size of the US Army according to the Army's own website. At an estimated cost of $1.2 billion per year for a 10,000 soldier increase in the Army, that's almost a $60 billion per year cost to double the size of the army.

Now, that's assuming that every soldier would work a 7-day work-week. In reality you're looking at around a half-million soldiers dedicated solely to standing guard on the border. That doesn't include the chain of command, the administrators, or the rest of the bureaucracy that inevitably accompanies any government project.

I'm all for securing our borders, but building a wall isn't a good way to do it.

Okay, maybe not so many soldiers to patrol, so technology might be the next focus. Like heat sensors in school hallways for detecting people at night that are stealing, can we get thermal imaging of the whole borders every 3 seconds and when a human form of heat is found within it have an alert go off in the near area at the border patrol place and have them tracked down and sent to jail.
