The Senate Judiciary and Rules and Administration Committees held a joint hearing Tuesday on how to best revise the system for replacing the president following a catastrophic event.

In the first hearing on the rules of presidential succession since 1947, the witnesses questioned whether members of Congress should be in line for commander-in-chief, suggested creating an Assistant Vice President post and proposed confirming a new administrations cabinet before the presidential inauguration.

Is it just time to change the rules? Or is something else at work here?

Anyway, I was just making conversation about this in chat. If a plan like this was made to "martyr" D.C. and its occupants into new aggression, it would certainly spark up patriotism to all new, unbelievable heights for another war on terror. It would also have the side effect of removing unwanted pesky politicians that would otherwise get in the way of other military goals. We'd also likely be placed directly under FEMA martial law control.

I don't think Bush would actually die in such a scenario. I forsee him simply stepping down from his role by the shadow government and allowing somebody else to slither into his place.

I'm not sure that the sense of nationalism and patriotism will ever be as high as it was soon after 9/11, because over time everyone sees how badly performing this useless and corrupt administration is in the things that matter.

Succession plans that extend any 'presidential' term beyond the timeframe of the next scheduled election are the things to watch for, lobby against and eliminate.

I don't think there is any possibility at all that George W Bush could still be 'president' by the time the 2004 election rolls around. Clearly that is being more widely recognized, but the whole cancer has to be cut from out of Washington for any shift or slither to do any good.

The snake has been caught, but it has to be milked and killed.

Yes, I think daily------------------------- is a great source of news. Sometimes I even contribute to their articles. In addition to other news sources I check, I find that Rotten.com readers often find articles that are overlooked by larger news sources that shouldn't be. Once you get past the weird stuff, that is.
