As of last night the PM of Australia revealed a new Terrorist threat in Australia conveniently after the new Law's to allow police to have more power were presented to the senate.

To me this looks like a well thought out Hoax to allow the PM to pass this new legislation.

If this legislation is passed then almost anyone could be dealt with in force.

What is everyone's opinion on the situation in Australia? Do you think this speculation is on par?

(Sorry guys kinda new to the board)

I'd think that the timing alone would be enough to raise red flags.

Hey--who remembers a couple months ago, when "al-Qaeda" threatened the US West Coast--and Melbourne, Australia?

I dont live in Australia, but its probably a hoax or based on bad intel. Bush just had to admit that a subway bombing threat here in the US was a hoax. And other threats come from tortured prisoners who would probably say anything to get the pain to stop.

Somewhere I read how the crime rate in [some country] dropped drastically after terrorist attacks. The reason given was that criminals were probably watching the television coverage of the attacks along with the rest of the citizens, and therefore not out commiting crimes. IF the crime rate really dropped so much, it would probably be to the benifet of a country to fake a terror threat, or even a terror event, just to subdue its citizens with 'shock and awe.' Also an event would give citizens more reason to trade freedom for security.
