Fake Flu Vaccines Given to Exxon Employees at Health Fair

Last week at Exxon Mobil Corporation's employee heath fair near Houson, about 1000 workers availed themselves of flu shots. However, the FBI has now notified Exxon that the flu shots were fake, and that the FDA is ascertaining exactly what was in the vaccines!

Exxon Mobil spokeswoman Treacy A. Roberts said Thursday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation told the company that the shots administered were "definitely not the flu vaccine." FBI officials did not explain how they found out about the potential fraud, Roberts said. Exxon Mobil offered blood tests and counseling to the up to 1,000 employees who took part in the health fair at the oil company's vast complex of refineries and chemical plants just east of Houston. It doesn't appear that the fake shots were harmful, but steps were being taken to ensure workers' safety, U.S. Attorney Chuck Rosenberg said in a statement Thursday.

Apparently, this was the first time an "outside contractor" was used for the health fair instead of the company medical people.

Despite the U.S. Attorney's assurances that the fake vaccines don't appear to be harmful, the article clearly states that no one knows what was in the shots yet:

The FBI and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are investigating what was in the syringes and whether others might have received the fake vaccine, Rosenberg said.

I wonder if this "outside contractor" had other work at different health fairs and also administered fake shots? If this doctor saved expenses by not having real flu vaccine in his syringes, it makes me wonder where else he/she cut corners. This is really scary.
