Your earthly remains

I know that many religions have beliefs that how a person remains are handled my effect how they move on into the afterlife. I have read that is a long drawn out process and a sprit might linger about their body for a couple of days after death. My question is this. Is their any beliefs of how cremation effects this process of a sprit moving on? How can a sprit linger about their body if it is cremated?

It seems to me that this is a discussion that belongs with the Faith, Spirituality and Theology forum in BTS as the answers may vary from religion to religion.
