I'm not trying to start anything here. I noticed that I could ignore other members but not people with authorative power. Why not?

"Lex"....you....need....KRYPTONITE......

Ignoring means that the one you have on "ignore' cannot read your posts, thus, mods have the need to see what a poster posts so that it abides by the rules and regulations of ATS.

Resulting in "no" ignore placed on mods.

wow. That's powerful. I thought i meant that YOU couldn't read their posts. Hmm. That's denying access. So if I ignored everyone but one person only that one person would be able to read my posts? Even with the print page option?

You know...I'm getting seriously tired but I think that you might be right there ktprktpr. If I put you on ignore, than I won't be able to see your posts...hmmm...let me try this out since I never put anyone on ignore....brb.

*edit* I put you on ignore and refreshed page and I couldn't see your posts....I wonder if you could still see mine....? I dunno, but my reasoning sounded good, but is probably wrong....my apologies for the mis-information.

I agree Net.....I almost said the samething when I was doing my first post to this but I figured I would try to give an answer he would be satisfied with...I think I messed that up badly....

But, all-in-all, I have no problem with the mods....pretty much.

Is an experiment going on here or not? Is the original answer correct? That ignoring someone removes your post from THEIR view, not their post being skipped over in your view? Seems like more of processing burden, too. (not going to hack cookies).

edit- this could get sensitive. Let me reiterate: I DO NOT HATE MODS. MODS ARE GOOD PEOPLE. I am merely asking to statisfy my curiosity.

Clarifying the Mod/Mud a little:

* When you ignore, you don't see the other's posts

* For the other to not see your posts, they must ignore you

* Mods can't ignore you and nor should they be ignored; if you ignored them, you wouldn't be able to see any gentle advice they give you before evicting you

* The Mod-generated blanket ignore policy, and channeling members subject to blanket ignore, can be fun

* The new Mod-generated selective ignore policy has me beat, and no-one has explained it to me yet; I have only seen the cries of anguish of its victims...

Thank you future Mod MA...errrr...MA.

I had a serious gut feeling I was wrong...and I do apologize to ktprktpr for that, but thank you for the clarification.

...pretty sure I explained it all in THIS thread.

ADMIN SELECTIVE IGNORE

Recently there has been occasion where certain members have seemed to do little more than have at eachothers throats all over the Forums. Threads get hijacked by these members as their grievances seem to spill into other threads, their own threads descend into tit for tat 'flame wars' and general discontent. Approaches to each party are made by Admins and Mods alike, asking each party to please stop their little war. Sometimes this works...sometimes it doesn't, and the parties persist.

When attempts by Admin/Mods to chill things down aren't working, we were previously faced with one option: Banning. Banning of one OR both feuding parties. Banning is not always a viable option, as there are times when the parties are otherwise good contributors, and we would hate to see either go...so...if they can't keep themselves separated, then along comes an Admin and 'separates' them temporarily by making them effectively invisible to eachother. When they have chilled out, when they can finally agree to put differences aside and play nice in the sand-pit, that temporary ignore is removed.

I can understand people would have issues with that...such as how dare anyone dictate who they can and can't see...how dare anyone treat me like a child...to which I'd reply "Would banning be better?" and "simply don't act like one".

Hope that makes things a little more clearer...

Peace,
ALIEN

I'm amazed how well this forum works considering the subject matter and the nature of (nearly) anonymous public forums.

I think I must have pissed the mods off at some point, because they ignore me!

If you have a question, then u2u me, I'm not in the habit of ignoring people...one of the roles of a Mod is surely to listen, even if it means we roll around laughing afterwards...

...no, seriously, if theres an issue I may be able to help with, u2u me and I'll respond ASAP.

Peace,
ALIEN

Alien, thanks. I have messaged you. I appreciate you listening. (don't worry, it's not insane babble, just a question about the forum)
