Hi all -

I looked around the music threads and couldn't find one that polled people's 'happy music'.

'Happy music' defined as unabashedly, uplifting music that makes you feel joyous, elated and alive. It makes you want to record a music video where you (the star) jump up and down and do all manner of embarrassing things that seem cool at the moment (come on... I KNOW you do it!) including (but not limited to) air guitaring, twirling, crowd surfing, pointing to the audience and then holding your ear, walking down the street like a grinning idiot and much, much, more.

Happy music doesn't have to be your favourite music. It just has to make you feel like this:

Here are a few of mine:

Cure - Mint Car
Coral - In the morning
September - Earth, Wind and Fire

Visa: Fly Away (1996)

This is one of the greatest happy hardcore anthems of all time. Absolutely love this song. It's fast, incredibly energetic, and uplifting. (It just became available on iTunes!)

Let's fly away
To a land where we'll be free
Your smile in the rain
Makes the sky light up again
Look into my eyes
And tell me what you see
Tell me that you'll stay
And we can fly away
Fly a-waaaayyyyy...

Ok, so I'm not the only one who dances around like I'm in a cheesy music video???... Good...

But I don't actually have ONE happy song... Everything is my happy song--- I just like songs... And dancing... And pretending to be famous...

Wow, you must like them, you posted their name in BIG BOLD letters. I'm never listened to their music, but then teenybopper music isn't really my thing. Then again... to each his/her own

You didn't name any songs though.

I love "It's Getting Better" by the Beatles,
"Play it Cool" by the Super Furry Animals is pretty cheerful,
and er, "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys...

but looking through my many many songs, It seems I'm more at home with misery, because there's hardly any particularly 'happy' songs to speak of.

Chebob

I was listening to 'It's getting better' this morning as I got ready for work.
Check out my 'mood'.

My 'happy' list this week is:

Better Days - The Kinks
10 minute piano solo from School - Supertramp (sheer ecstasy)
Romeo (makes me dance) - Basement Jaxx
Be Thankful For What You Got - William Devaughn (Massive Attack's version is good too - more mellow than happy, but reminds me of warm summer days)

That's another great one I missed, I think I prefer the Massive Attack version myself. Which also reminded me of Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff's "Summertime", oozes cheese but that song always marks the start of summer for me, it's pure "Summer"

How soon is it now? Isn't this one of the Smiths most depressing songs ever? "There's a club if you'd like to go/You could meet somebody who really loves you/So you go and you stand on your own/And you leave on your own/And you go home/And you cry and you want to die............."

If that makes you happy then you are sick I say. Sick.

I saw Polyphonic at Leeds a few years ago. They are a happy bunch with their white robes and their infectious chanting, sunny songs.
