NEWS: Mother Accused of Throwing Kids Into SF Bay

A woman from Oakland CA, has been arrested following the discovery of a child's body by rescuers who had received a report that a woman had dropped three children off a pier into San Francisco Bay. . Rescuers have found one body, and the other two children were feared to be dead. The mother, Lashaun Harris, 23, of Oakland, has been charged with three counts of murder.



Reportedly Harris had been staying with her children at a Salvation Army shelter in Oakland, Calif; further more, it is believed she may have suffered from mental problems and had not been taking her medication as she should have been.

This is indeed a tragedy, yet I wonder why the shelter authorities never picked up some odd behavior on her part?

Better yet do they even care? Does anyone know the answer to that?

We actually got a pre activation for this in case any were found alive. But the bay water is about 50 degrees so none of these children have survived this.

I am appalled beyond belief at this. That a mother would do this, that no one went into the water after the kids were stripped down and tossed in........

I am at a total loss and have been so all night.

Its been a really bad week for children in the SF Bay Area:

1) Last week a man was murdered in front of a day care center in SF and they shot and killed his toddler sitting in the car seat and the kid was targeted it was not accidental.

2) a brother and sister 7 and 9 were killed outside of a school when a speeding driver hit a parked car and it crushed them

and then this......

Im really at a loss here

If convicted I hope this woman gets the death pentalty. But knowing our history people will make excuses for her and she will only get life. Its like that nut that drowned her kids in the tub. Stuff like this needs the death penalty. Being crazy is no excuse. Ted Bundy was crazy. Anyone that kills is crazy.

I think it says in the article that the shelters social worker has talked to her earlier that day or the day before and she was shocked and that she never thought something like this would happen. People are amazing in what they can hide from people when they want to. I knew someone who committed suicide and saw her frequently and in fact saw her the day she did it and NEVER had any idea that things weren't perfect in her life -- there were no signs that tipped me off at all.

Sad. Horrid. Shocking. Unfortunate for everyone. Even the mother who heard voices. No doubt those voices were telling her how hopeless the situation was at the shelter and she didn't want to see her children go through the same agony of trying to get off the streets.

At least that is possibly what the voices were telling her.

It's one thing to listen to the voices...quite another to actually DO something you know to be wrong.

I mean, if I had voices telling me to jump off a cliff, I'd tell them to bugger off.... The woman is bonkers...pure and simple....though personally, I think SHE should be thrown in the bay...preferably with some cement shoes and some chum perfume on...

At the very least, these kinds of people need to be "fixed" so they don't ever have kids again, regardless of the degree of mental treatment...

the ability to take a life is a sign of insanity (outside war or defense)

If you are crazy on the plain, you get hung in the rain...
shouldn't matter...

keeping these lowlifes around is what is perpetuating this kind of insanity.
Don't try to understand it or have compassion for it... it is crazy... so kill it... get it out of the mix.... the rest of the pool will be happier forever for it...

I wonder if she was/had been taking any anti-depressants or other medication?
