PODcast: Hail Jah
Now for something totally different. This is a co-write with him writing lyrics and performing vocals, a couple of women on background vocals, and me doing the music, all instruments, producing and engineering. This piece seeks to invent a new musical flavor, combining carribean, island, calypso, latin, and modern elements into a danceable tune with a powerful poilitical and spiritual message.

Hail Jah, Hail Jah, Hail Jah Jah Jah
Hail Jah, Hail Jah, Hail Jah Jah Jah
Hail Jah, Hail Jah, Hail Jah Jah Jah
Hail Jah, Hail Jah, Hail Jah Jah Jah

Something I don’t understand
Something’s really wrong with man
He keep riding on a downhill spiral
Seems he’s headed straight for hell

I raise my hands and pray
Jah will come and show us the way
Jah Jah he can make things right
So we can make it through the night

Calling Jah, calling Jah, calling Jah
Hail Jah, Hail Jah, Hail Jah Jah Jah
Hail Jah, Hail Jah, Hail Jah Jah Jah

Sometimes I have to wonder (truth)
What kind of life I’m under (that’s the truth)
Where people hate each other (truth)
They don’t believe that they’re brothers (that’s the truth)
We’ve got to come together (Hail Jah, Hail Jah, Hail Jah Jah Jah)
So we can help one another (Hail Jah, Hail Jah)

Calling Jah, calling Jah, calling Jah

That’s the truth, that’s the truth
Hail Jah, Hail Jah, Hail Jah Jah Jah
Hail Jah, Hail Jah, Hail Jah Jah Jah

Blood’s flowing in the sand
There’s genocide in Sudan land
Just like in Rwanda
It’s nothing but murder
And in everybody’s country
Man is going crazy
In everybody’s country
Man has lost his sanity

They’re killing for a penny
They say they don’t have any
They’re killing off each other’s faith
They’re killing you for pure hate
In everybody’s nation
People dying of starvation
In everybody’s country
It’s war and poverty

I lift my hands and pray
That Jah will come and show us the way
Jah Jah he can make things right
So we can make it through the night
So we can make it through the night
So we can make it through the night

Repeat till end

Of course someone's heard it! Or as I like to say, "Hell jah!"

I've been chewing on it -- as is my custom -- before commenting. But I keep forgetting that us musicians thrive on feedback, even if it's just "I'm listening to it."

So, um, I'm listening to it.

Tribal Funk With A Conscience

Okay, I've listened to this song more times than you want to know.

My conclusion: it's bitchin'

The first time I heard it I said "What the hell?!?"

It comes on pretty strong the first time.

With repeated listenings, however, and more time to pick through those trademark massively-layered tracks, I am definitely diggin' it.

Unsurprisingly, the song is expertly crafted, and with an enviable mix -- I really admire your mixing style and talent arranging and crafting songs.

You better believe I'ma rip off what I can.

Excellent lyrics, too. As they emerge from the chants, they really pack a punch.

Keep 'em coming!

P.S. Watch out, though -- there could be some confusion on one point...

“Jar Jar he can make things right.”

Majic....priceless that pic! And thought.

Yep, Hail Jah is a different tune alright, but what the heck, fun to hear people's reactions, especially yours! It took a while to grow on me, but now I kinda like it too.

I'd just like to remind everyone that I produce a lot of different kinds of stuff with a lot of different people. Just wait till I start posting the Chinese stuff.

Great Song. I like the lyrics. I will have to get back sometime and listen to the tune.

The words are well written and the rivers are turning into blood.

I have always believed that we are brothers and sisters. Yet, there are people of whom I had the unfortunate to meet that thrive on hate. My husband and I weren't thier only victims.

The hatred is within the whole family and it is sad. They attack the vulnerable and the weak.

It is so sad that somebody's life could be so bitter that all is left is hate.

I agree with the song-we are all brothers/sisters and should work togethor not tear each other apart

love, light and peace

I had my speakers turned up from listening to something else and so this was blasted out at me. Fortunately, it's a nice little AIWA stereo set and it handled it just fine. It took about .2 seconds for this song to get to my heart and by that time, I decided that the volume was just perfect. I danced in my chair the whole song! I_LOVE_THIS! The mail vocals make me tingly!

I was reminded of the reggae concerts of my past when I spent the whole night on my feet. Best dancin' music there is.

Great lyrics, great music! Oh, and it's great to dance to! I give it a 10!

No kidding, True, it's unquestionably my favorite of yours so far!

wow, kk, thanks rachel07, and BH! So glad you like it! It's done with one of my co-writing friends, and that is recent stuff. We'll be finishing it off this weekend, he's gonna recut the lead vocals...
I like em the way they are, but he insists he can do it better, so....It is going to be released in the carribean and europe first.

Thanks again,
TA

Thank you.

Thanks crustas! Yeah that groove is a little bit infectious, makes even a dancing-challenged alien like me wanna get up and do the Moon Walk.

Lol, loam, don't tempt me
I'm serious though I got 4 cd's worth of this chinese lady who plays an instrument called a zheng. It's actually pretty music, and she is considered a zheng master. But nah, please don't make me...

I think that sounds fun....

I really like culturally blended music... particularly competing scales (western and eastern) and rhythms and indigenous vocals... Throw in any of the wailings of a Celtic or middle eastern vocalist and I'm hooked. I also love primitive music... gives me the chills.

Glad ya liked it, ots!

And da w3rd is: we recut the lead vocals, tightened up a few things, got a new mix and...I might upload it if you folks would like to see how a tune can evolve. Is the new version better? I'm thinkin so...He likes it better too.

I dunno. on second thought maybe we'll save the new version for the commercial release.
