The state is going to implement two "No schools day" to help with the problem with the diesel that will be expected with Rita hitting the Texas coast.

About 25 percent of oil refine in our country comes from Texas coast, that includes heating oil and diesel oil.

Will this help?

ATLANTA (AP) -- Governor Perdue asked the state's schools to take two "early snow days" and cancel classes Monday and Tuesday to help conserve fuel as Hurricane Rita threatens the nation's fuel supply line. If all of Georgia's schools close, the governor estimated about 250,000 gallons of diesel fuel would be saved each day by keeping buses off the road.

If every state does the same I think it may work in saving diesel in case we are caught up in a big problem and oil shortage like when NO got hit.

Margie, do you have a link to Loam's topic? It's not in this forum. If you could post it, I'd be happy to close with redirect, but this may be a different take altogether for Fragile Earth discussion.
