Is there and actual flame thrower used as a weapon. Or what is it's use?

SHort range anti-personal incendiary

Created by the germans in 1901 and first offical use in the military was in 1916 in the battle of Verdun. Later was used extensivly in WWII ,and were very useful in the Pacific war by the US marines in clearing out Japanese fortified positions

Only one minor problem with flame throwers. They tend to explode, setting the user and anyone nearby on fire when they are hit by bullets or shrapnel.

Yes. Being burnt alive and having your fellow soldiers around you burnt alive is sure worth it. Hearing them run around screaming is about as cool as it gets. Everyone should have a flamethrower. Then we can all be cool because it will be 'worth it' to see all your mates die.
