I've dealt with octopus in the commercial fishing business back in my younger days. They weren't poisonous, but they could put a hurtin' on you.
Faster then they look, especially fresh out of the water.
Add poison that potent into the mix? Oh, hell no... You couldn't get me in the water down under. Damn critters want to eat you, or poison you, or
poison you then eat you.
Run into a freshie/saltie, I'd probably save 'em the effort of killing me, and drop dead from terror...and we won't even discuss the snakes.
Timber rattlers are bad enough, they'll give you warning... Down there? Sneaky snakes.
I do, someday want to visit, but you'll have to do something about the snakes. Even platypus' are poisonous.
