A personal favourite of mine

Green Day-Jesus of Suburbia

I'm the son of rage and love,
The Jesus of suburbia,
From the bible of "none of the above",
On a steady diet of soda pop and ritalin,
No one ever died for my sins in hell,
As far as I can tell,
At least the ones I got away with

my fav tune from the GD album...

"Holiday"

Say, Hey!

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame (Hey!)
The shame
The ones who died without a name

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called "Faith and Misery" (Hey!)
And bleed, the company lost the war today

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protestor has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side

Captain Beefheart in Trout Mask Replica, the songs name is "The Dust Blows Forward n' The Dust Blows Back"

There's ole Gray with 'er dove-winged hat
Threre's ole Green with her sewing machine
Where's the bobbin at?
Tote'n old grain in uh printed sack
The dust blows forward 'n dust blows back
And the wind blows black thru the sky
And the smokestack blows up in suns eye
What am I gonna die?
Uh white flake riverboat just flew by
Bubbles popped big
'n uh lipstick Kleenex hung on uh pointed forked twig
Reminds of the bobby girls
Never was my hobby girls
Hand full uh worms and uh pole fishin'
Cork bobbin' like uh hot red bulb
'n uh blue jay squeaks
His beak open an inch above uh creek
Gone fishin' for a week
Well I put down my bush
'n I took of my pants 'n felt free
The breeze blowin' up me 'n up the canyon
Far as I could see
It's night now and the moon looks like uh dandelion
It's black now 'n the blackbird's feedin' on rice
'n his red wings look diamonds 'n lice
I can hear the mice toes scamperin'
Gophers rumblin' in pile crater rock hole
One red bean stuck in the bottom of uh tin bowl
Hot coffee from uh krimpt up can

Me 'n my girl named Bimbo Limbo Spam

The Importance Of Being Idle

I sold my soul for the second time
Cos the man, he don't pay me
I begged my landlord for some more time
He said "Son, the bills waiting"

My best friend called me the other night
He said "Man, are you crazy?"
My girlfriend told me to get a life
She said "boy, you lazy"

But I don't mind
As long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine
I'll be fine
If you give me a minute
A mans got a limit
You cant get a life if your hearts' not in it

More!

I'm lazy, I relate to this song

I would say the lyrics I like the most are those written by Bob Dylan, and Jim Morrison of The Doors.

"Desolation Row" by Dylan is a true masterpiece if you haven't heard it, as someone mentioned it above.

One of my favorites by Dylan is "Mr. Tambourine Man"-

"Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind,
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.

Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today until tomorrow."

Part from "The End" By Jim Morrison (He would usually perform this song with improvised poetry during different sections...it was always played last at concerts, and the audience would leave, stunned, after seeing and hearing this performance, download a live version of this song)

"This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die"

Nothing beats this one from Hank Williams:

Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry

I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind a cloud
To hide its face and cry

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves begin to die?
Like me he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry

The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry

John Lennon - Imagine

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Kansas:

Dust in the Wind

I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the wind.
Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do, crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see

Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind

[Now] Don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away, and all your money won't another minute buy.

Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind
Dust in the wind, everything is dust in the wind.

A song that can make me cry. By the Verve (PS. I know they werent the originals):

All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm comin' down

And I hope you're thinking of me
As you lay down on your side
Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

But I know I'm on a losing streak
'Cause I passed down my old street
And if you wanna show, then just let me know
And I'll sing in your ear again

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

'Cause baby, ooh, if heaven calls, I'm coming, too
Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead

Another band that has some great lyrics is Electric Six. They are not always very serious lyrics, but have incredible style and impact. One example:

"Vengeance And Fashion"

I saw fire, when I looked in my lovers eyes,
Woooaaahhhooo,
I saw, the devil dressed up in disguise,
Woooaaahhhooo,
And you know it gets hotter than a microwave oven,
When you and I commence the lovin',
And you like what I'm doin',
And I like what I'm doin' to you,
And everybody's happy, happy tonight.

I'm a man, and I'm torn between vengeance and fashion,
Woooaaahhhoooo,
And I'm tryin' so hard not to get caught up in the passion,
Woooaaahhhooo,
And you know that my suit cost more than your house,
I'm a scoundrel, a lover, a murderous mouse,
And that looked good in your bed,
And you think that I'm lookin' good,
And everybody's happy, happy tonight.

She's a girl, and she's got so many crazy ideas man,
Woooaaahhhooo,
She wants to push the button, and execute this innocent man,
Woooaaahhhooo,
And you know she's depressed in her wedding dress,
She's gonna have her rings removed,
And I like the way she's lookin',
Yeah she's lookin' like a hundred dollars,
And everybody's happy, happy tonight.

I love this line: "And you know that my suit cost more than your house"

i've got a few...
ill post them in different posts in no certain order

first up
TooL - Forty Six & Two

My shadow's

Shedding skin and
I've been picking
Scabs again.
I'm down
Digging through
My old muscles
Looking for a clue.

I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own confused
And insecure delusions
For a piece to cross me over
Or a word to guide me in.
I wanna feel the changes coming down.
I wanna know what I've been hiding in

My shadow.
Change is coming through my shadow.
My shadow's shedding skin
I've been picking
My scabs again.

I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own chaotic
And insecure delusions.

I wanna feel the change consume me,
Feel the outside turning in.
I wanna feel the metamorphosis and
Cleansing I've endured within

My shadow
Change is coming.
Now is my time.
Listen to my muscle memory.
Contemplate what I've been clinging to.
Forty-six and two ahead of me.

I choose to live and to
Grow, take and give and to
Move, learn and love and to
Cry, kill and die and to
Be paranoid and to
Lie, hate and fear and to
Do what it takes to move through.

I choose to live and to
Lie, kill and give and to
Die, learn and love and to
Do what it takes to step through.

See my shadow changing,
Stretching up and over me.
Soften this old armor.
Hoping I can clear the way
By stepping through my shadow,
Coming out the other side.
Step into the shadow.
Forty six and two are just ahead of me.

Our Lady Peace - Everyone's A Junkie

I'm not waiting for the answers
On a Sunday afternoon
I'm just too drunk to remember
Why I always slip through

The drugs and fake ambition
Have been helping me to hide
But it's the endless television
That has kept me inside

Where does it stop?
Where does it end?
Where do we go?
Why am I always complaining?

I can be good
I can be bad
I can be loved

But everything's gone black
You're looking for that sun
You're looking for that light
Lonely, you're not the only one to feel this way

Black, you're looking for that sun
You're looking for that light
Lonely, you're not the only one to feel this way

Big green monkey, everyone's a junkie

I'm not asking for forgiveness
For the things that I don't know
But I'm really not that different
You just made me think so

Where does it stop?
Where does it end?
Where do we go?
Why am I always complaining?

I can be good
I can be bad
I can be loved

But everything's gone black
You're looking for that sun
You're looking for that light
Lonely, you're not the only one to feel this way

Black, you're looking for that sun
You're looking for that light
Lonely, you're not the only one to feel this way

Big green monkey, everyone's a junkie

Big green monkey, everyone's a junkie..
Big green monkey, everyone's a junkie..
Big green monkey, everyone's a junkie
Big green monkey, everyone's a junkie
You're the big green monkey, everone's a junkie

Black
You're looking for that sun
You're looking for that light
Lonely, you're not the only one to feel this way

Black, you're looking for that sun
You're looking for that light
Lonely, you're not the only one to feel this way
And I'll remember this someday

Black, you're looking for that sun
You're looking for that light
Lonely, you're not the only one to feel this way

Black, you're looking for that sun
You're looking for that light
Lonely, you're not the only one to feel this way

Big green monkey, everyone's a junkie
