Heh.

I heard this more or less "live" on NPR's "Marketplace" where the comment was originally aired. I was not really paying attention to who was talking and I thought it was some dopey low-level redneck volunteer at the Astrodome.

When I realized the next day it was Barbara Bush I nearly fell out of my chair!

I immediatly went to the wikipedia and helped flesh out the bit under "controversies" which you can find HERE.

One can only imagine what this family says when the camera is not around!

PS - someone said this has not been picked up by mainstream media - it has - prominent features in NY Times, CNN, etc. etc. I think in a way it is too funny to be really shocking.

First of all, I'd like you all to link me to the site that has the audio of her saying it ...Then, I'd like to point out that she probably was at the Astrodome or wherever that had the nicer air mattresses instead of the cots..and yes she is aware of the difficult living conditions on the poorest in America, most of the black population from New Orleans...Give her the benefit of the doubt..but of course you won't!!!

She made this comment in the astrodome, where 15,000 people are living on cots, the lights never go completely out, the sound of crying babies never completely stops, oh and I almost forgot - it is filled with people who have just lived through one of the worst nightmares in the history of our nation. You can find all the info you want right

here

I certainly will not give her the benifit of the doubt. It is quite clear that she and her family have a startling lack of empathy and are 100% out of touch with 90% of the population.

Remember "Poppy" bush marveling at the scanner in the supermarket?

Did you see "W" reminicing about "having too much fun" *chuckle* in NOLA as people on the ground were dying?

They are beyond innapropriate.

Very good and IMPORTANT thread, but I have a question: I wonder how many people that are griping about this voted for Bush. No offense.. (Actually, I DO mean to offend) But if you voted for Bush I have no sympathy for you and I think you should just lie in the bed you made. I also resent the fact that because you voted for this charlatan that I (and alot of other people) are now suffering because of your stupidity. What amazes me is that folks just couldnt' see that the Bush family is the EPITIMY of fascism. I mean their roots go way back and are deep in some scary stuff. Check out this thread I just started.. (This is just the tip of the iceberg) WAKE UP PEOPLE, the writing is on the wall. Too bad you didn't see it ahead of time.
