I probably have different political views than Johnny Depp, but what I find sad is when some one has fame and popular attention and they DON'T speak out about things they are passionate about.

I give respect to anyone who uses their position of attention to back their beliefs. Even Babs
and Geer
. But I also respect Charlton Heston and Arnold
and Clint. It is right to use a podium when you get the chance. And it is right to participate in the political system if you can get there.

I have noticed something though. The liberal celebrities tend to be able to speak out with really really mean personal attacks more often than the conservative celebrities.

Hi Luna!

I made a typo in my statement that made it read different than I meant it to. Let me say it the way I meant to:

I have noticed something though. The liberal celebrities tend to be able to speak out without really really mean personal attacks more often than the conservative celebrities.

(I mean without them being called really really bad names for speaking out, versus the personal name calling that seems to happen when conservative celebrities speak out.)

ALSO, the people you listed are political pundits. There are some pretty firey words spoken on boths sides in pundit-land. I was speaking of celebrities whose fame comes not from politics.

Thank you!

honeybee,

that definitely changes things.

As an Amazon, I shall endeavour to protect you as scout for the King, and offer you a sip of Apricot Brandy from the folds of my quiver. (I know that may sound a bit gay, but no - I am not gay).

Slante! Prost! Cin-cin!

As to those that claim that "America" is all there is to the man's success - think again. Without his inimittable talent, he'd be as nobody in France, USA or freakin' NZ if it weren't for his work and his talent, as any number of people that do not make it under the "American" system of pseudo-meritocracy. He'd be as nothing as the no ones you see everyday.

Sure he would... Quick question, how much dough does the highest paid French actor/actress make per movie?
He certainly has the American system to thank for his success....

No doubt enough to live well.

But if he was not hard working and talented he would be nothing.

How much does the lowest paid worker in America get paid?

You have CEO's and born-unto-wealth pseudo-aristocrats skimming you at the same time they exploit 3rd world slaves in designer after-shave, baby.

Tch, baby, tch!

To take the "American Dream"(tm) even futher in the modern context of life - America's wealth was built on slavery, and it still is.
americanhistory.si.edu...

You're making it sound like all ostentatious and voluminous wealth is an American thing for ALL Americans, and is something that can be got simply by being American or by being "good".

That is neither possible, nor is it so.

(PS: There are some Bollywood stars that do pretty darned well in the order of things, too).

For all those people putting up a passionate defense of Johnny's words, well, sorry to say, he's caved on you. He's pretty much taken the "comments taken radically out of context", "I have benefited greatly from the freedom that exists in my country and for this I am eternally grateful" , etc road.

Doubtless there is some truth to this.

About the media giving more time to liberal entertainers, I can't help but think that if we collectively yawned and changed the channel every time we were confronted by this that the practice would stop. Same thing for the shockingly few conservative entertainers.

You seem to get confused on a couple places, there, Chicky; let me help.

You see, Johnny, as well as Babs and Garafalo and the rest of the Hollywood left-brainers, have as much right to their opinion as anyone else does. The difference? Anyone with a cursory knowledge of history, civics and current events knows they are blowing crap out their mouths, but as they have gained noteriety for pretending to be other people and making lots of money, they have a ready-made platform. And since the main-media is as left as can be (even Walter Cronkite admitted that obvious fact), they are given all the airtime they want to blow chunks into the brains of the American people.

Now, what is the difference between Ann, Rush and Sean? This would be extremely obvious for even the casual observer, but I'll explain it. Jeneane, for example, just started paying attention to politics after she recently sobered up (self-admission), while Ann, Rush and Sean do it for a living and are well read. Ann is even a constitutional lawyer. They are not people who make livings pretending to be others so much that they themselves believe they are important, they are gatherers of knowledge and passers-on of knowledge.

People say America - Love it or leave it.

I say this - I love it so won't you please leave it alone. It was great in 1890. Then marx sent his scouts who came back to him and said there wasn't enough socialism. Back then we didn't need socialism we had family. I recently mentioned yhay a company should treat it's workers withrespect. Hey , I got told "that's socialism" by a veteran. (I'm a veteran too). So if a company doesnt care about thier employees-what's that -capitalism? The respect for family and God is so low now, that we have lost family as a support , so now we need "family values from our country." In my English 101 class, they are defining family as people who depend on each other economically to get by. Family is being defined as having less to do with a man and wife with children . Gay "families". Under the new "family" definition your employer could be defined as a family. I asked what will the new word be for a man and a woman living together with their children? i was told this new concept will have its problems, legally. I think we could have a forum on what to call a family now that the word family has been taken over by employers and queers. Oh I forgot, I can't call them that anymore. Heterosexuals should be called queers now. Now look, I think everyone should be respected. Years ago queers were "in the closet". I don't care if they come out just don't get in my face and disrespect "normal' values. I hear gays want "old-fashioned" marriages. Fine ! have em! Do it the old fashioned way. Guys - marry a woman. Girls, mary a man. sorry i lost my cool. my three part essay structure went out the window, Ok i'll just come out of the closet. Idon't think we should woryy aboout proper grammer or word structure. I want to have old fashioned respect but idont want to worry about doin it the old fashioned way. I want a new word for bad grammer- iknow-let'scall it good grammer.
