Animation Tool Recomendations

Hi guys.

Im a software engineer my trade, but I have to do something Ive never actually had any experience of. Ive been asked to put together an animation of a tool Ive written in action, kind of like a demo showing a tool, its featurs and how it works. I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a simple open source animation tool which would allow me to do this. Thats all, just to locate the tool then I can do the rest. (Yes I know I could use Google but Im interested to hear in opinions if there are any)

Well do you want to do an actual 3d animation or a presentation?
You could also use Flash to do it.
