THE crew of a boat carrying Olivia Newton-John's boyfriend realised he was missing while the vessel was still at sea, a fisherman who was aboard has claimed.
The claim contradicts the version of events given by Frank Liversedge, who oversees the vessel, Freedom.
Liversedge has told the media no-one realised Patrick McDermott was missing until his ex-wife, Yvette Ipar, contacted him on July 11 – 10 days after the boat returned from a fishing trip.
The fisherman, interviewed on US television, said the crew of the Freedom discovered McDermott was missing well before the boat returned to shore on July 1.
The crew then conducted an extensive search for McDermott on the vessel, but could not find him.
The fisherman said that as the Freedom was making its way back to San Pedro, south of Los Angeles, the crew called out McDermott's name at least "five or six times" on the boat's loud speaker.

The former partner of actress Olivia Newton-John, who went missing five years ago on an overnight fishing trip, is living a new life in a Mexican seaside village, it has been revealed.
Patrick McDermott created worldwide headlines in 2005 when he vanished, aged 48, just days after ending his nine-year romance with the Grease star.
Now it has emerged he is living in the Mexican village of Sayulita and working as a ship's mate on a tourist yacht.
