An American was arrested when he tried to board an airplane in Oklahoma City while carrying a bomb. He apparently "forgot" he had a bomb in his luggage. A pipe bomb he said he built "for fun". He was released the very next day of course...

Reuters: Oklahoma man says he forgot he had bomb-documents

An Oklahoma man told federal investigators he forgot a pipe bomb he built for fun was in his luggage when tried to board an airplane, according to court documents released on Thursday.

Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr., 24, was charged on Thursday with trying to carry the bomb aboard a Delta Airlines flight from Oklahoma City to Atlanta on Wednesday

Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr. was arrested Wednesday at a security checkpoint at Will Rogers World Airport when a small explosive device was found in his carry-on bag.

A University of Oklahoma student was released on $10,000 bail Thursday after appearing in federal court to be formally accused of a felony for bringing a small explosive device into Will Rogers World Airport.

He probably looked so innocent, so they decided he couldn´t possibly have meant no harm...

I’m trying to figure out your meaning here in these two lines. The obvious one is that you feel that if you don’t appear to be Arab you don’t have anything to worry about. Or is it more specific that he is an American so we don’t have anything to worry about?

#1 He isn’t scott free, he is out on $10,000 bail. I am certain they deemed him not enough of a threat to deny bail. They most likely took away any passports he had as well. And if you think for one moment he is not being watched your nuts.

#2 Who is STUPID enough to send a bomb through an X-ray machine post 9/11? Or pre 9/11 for that matter? He may be telling the truth about forgetting.

Bottom line is: The guy is still in deep trouble and you have absolutely no knowledge of the details of this case and have no idea what the authorities know about this case. But you still make statements that imply American double standards and racism.

He's too White to be a Terrorist - and Where is the Beard?

And where is the Muslim Sounding Name? Alfred? Maybe if his name of Ahmed he would not "Escaped" that easily.

I wonder what the Authorities would do to a Muslim man named Ahmed that "Forgot" a Pipe Bomb in his Luggage?

I hate it when i forget to take my bombs out of my bags before i fly.
It's so easy to do. Luckily i'm a white guy too thou, so it's usually just a matter of paying the excess.

I would think a bomb on a plane would be a terrorist issue under any of America's anti-Terrorism laws? I guess 'i forgot' is all future Terrorists need to say if their hijinks are foiled.

I have to agree w/ you skippytjc. I believe he is being watched very closely.

Have we forgotten about all out our famous "home grown white terrorists"?
Nichols & McVey? or what about Harris & Klebold?

Lets ot set ourselves back 100 years. It has taken too much work and sacrifice to get where we are today.

This totally sounds like media sensationalism to me. Look at the story from yesterday about the very same incident:

Yesterday's Story

No mention of a 'PIPE' bom. And in this thread from yesterday, an ATS member said that Dreyling's family said he made fireworks as a hobby and forgot these from July 4th in his backpack.

Of course I could be wrong, but I just have a hunch that this is being blown out of proportion.

Sometimes a kid with a couple of fireworks is just a kid with a couple of fireworks, not a terrorist with 'pipe' bombs.

The first line you quoted was just my summary of the two articles. "Facts". Reuters said it was a pipe bomb he said he built for fun. If it was not a pipe bomb but "innocent" fireworks, then Reuters were wrong. You are right about me not knowing any more about this case than what is written here in these two articles. That last line there... Racism?
That wasn´t on my mind at all. But you are sort of right in a way, I wouldn´t have written that if he was an "Afro-American" (See? Politically correct
) . Cause if he was Afro-American or Chinese, then I would have been called a racist for saying that
. When I first saw this story, CIA was the first on my mind. If he is not hired by CIA, then I think he may have been trying to get the Darwin Awards. Bringing a pipe bomb aboard a plane is quite serious. You don´t just "forget" you have a bomb, do you? Would you have defended this guy if he wasn´t white?

Hate to say it but had this guy been a Muslim there is no way he would have been released. Honestly I can't believe this guy is out on bail.

AMERICANS with double standards reguarding RACISM?? No way! Couldn't be! What on earth gives you that idea???

I don't think this is a double standard soley based on race, more of a race/religion issue. The guy is a college student, doesn't seem to have any vendetta against American government, and didn't even go through the trouble of trying to hide the device from an X-ray machine. Most people would try to wrap such a device in poxy or stick in their shoe, a radio, or up their (explicit).

I'll believe the guy, though with a small bit of doubt.

I'm guessing he didn't intend to bring down the plane with it and didn't think they'd realize what it was- maybe he figured luggage screening wasn't as careful as carryon.

He probably meant to blow up somebody where he was going- just my guess.

Or it could have been a test on security by a terrorist organization (not necessarily an islamic one, although he could be another Johnny Walker for all we know)
