Sovremenny Class rebirth in China

China has supplemently ordered more than 6-8 Sovremenny Class destroyers which will get some great ameliorations.

Do you mean the SS-N-25? SS-N-28 was an SLBM program the Russians abandoned in 1999.

It's interesting if this is true, the SS-N-25 is arguably less potent than the Moskit, comparable to the Harpoon in general performance. It sounds like they are working to make Sovremenny more of an anti-air platform than a surface raider.

If what I remember is correct, isn't SS-M-28 Yakhonts? Yakhonts outperform the Moskits, Switchblades have similar performance when compared to the Harpoon.

Yakhonts is SS-N-26.
Makes sense as it's the Russian replacement for Sunburn.

With 16 of those and 64 SA-N-6 (naval version of the S300 long range SAM), the Sovremmeny's would become very capable ships indeed.

In related PLAN news, the magazine Warships: International Fleet Review recently reported that the fourth of the big Slava class cruisers is being completed by the Ukranians for a foreign buyer, probably China. If true, this will become the biggest and most powerful ship in the PLAN.

The Slava needs upgrades before it can be purchased by PLAN, the Ukranian Slava is basically 80's tech, PLAN wants new stuff when purchasing from a foreign dealer, we can make the relatively older stuff much cheaper.

Presumably, they could buy the hardware to fit it out from Russia, possibly replacing the SS-N-12's with Yakhonts, they are already purchasing SA-N-6 VLS systems (and presumably appropriate fire control radars) for the Sovremenny's if the original post is accurate, so it's not all that much off a stretch to buy a Slava hull (apparently Ukrania is structurally complete but not fully fitted out) and equip it similarly.
