with all the plastic surgey going on, do you feel that we will become a plastic world? should these doctors be inproving peoples apperecnce because they flash some cash at them? shouldn`t they be actually be healing people?

There is a legitimate need for some plastic surgery. Accidents happen, and I have no problem with patching these people up so that they look more normal.

With the purely cosmetic surgery, I think it is a stupid idea to shell out piles of cash just to improve the shape of noses, chins, or whatever the case may be. It is stupid and wasteful, and they are diverting the doctors from performing more useful tasks.

I agree that doctor's time would be better spent healing people, rather than tweaking appearances. It's a classic case of capitalism at work. The demand is out there, so the supply is created.

Some doctors actually have this as an interest, like....the whole body contour design as their reason for medical training, they love to correct mistakes, n make thigns symettrical, ect. ^^

To reach the height of perfection that is the physical embodiment of Michael Jackson, one certainly needs money and highly skilled cosmetic craftspeople.

Did anyone see the MJ character (last human alive) as a stretched out piece of skin during the second episode of the current Dr Who series?

LOL.

Silicon just doesn't cut it.

I would have really wonder how many doctors actually help, or are more concerned about there car payment and paying off their brand new 48,000 dollar ski boat/penis extension. Most people that want to help, but can not sustain the volcano of corcuption there industry actcepts, what ever it may be

Well....what do you all think?

I won't go into details, but I once consulted a cosmetic surgeon about my face, and he said there would be 5 things he would change about it. (Also he came up with a massive bill)

Do you think I would need that much surgery? Originally all I wanted was one single surgery.......

I'm still thinking about this doctors recomendations though, as it rings in my head the things he said about my face, and how they make me look unattractive....

An episode of Dr. Who obviously proves NOTHING, and nor does it depict MJ truthfully in any way!

He is not made of silicone......*Sighs* If you truly believe this you really really really need to see a doctor, and tell them you think MJ is made of silicone, they'll send you a certain place, right away.......the mental hospital...

Not as much as MJ does for the rest of his life.

But please relax, the reference to silicon was a thought in another direction entirely.

Most plastic surgeons are not "healers" anyhow. They are artists. They just use a knife and surgical instruments as their brushes and people as their canvas. I do not begrudge them their preferred profession(most of them at least)

I think people take things too far often. Though, after having twins, a tummy tuck sounds pretty good at this point. Even if did situps from dawn till dusk, my hanging skin would still look like hanging skin. I hate pain though and the scar ain't pretty. Sure makes a bikini look nice though!

This is exactly what I tried to explain, most cosmetic surgeons have an ideal of perfect symmetry, and how to find beauty in every human body, a passion, to see a person smile, as the surgeon corrects a downturn nose, cleft lip, or various other things such as wrinkles.

So there not really playing the market in my opinion, besides, the more there are, the cheaper it shall become.

Technically cosmetic surgeons are "artists", and their canvas is flesh.
They need degrees as doctors so that people aren't carved up and horribly mamed by quacks.

The people who get plastic surgery obviously have self esteem issues, or at least
work related issues with their looks as in the film biz.

I still don't know why women get breats implants. Its really lame.
You know walking up to the guy you wan't and telling him
what you want from him is more effective than having every
guy in the universe only look at your tits.

I guess for the porn industry its important not to look like a boy...but hey if you got man chest, find another line of work!

"When the LASER was invented in the 60's it was largely regarded as a "solution looking for a problem". Today we see LASER technology every day, in every walk of life, and the benefit to society is incalculable. Throughout history we've quipped "Necessity is the Mother of Invention"; and inventors occupied themselves solving problems and building better mousetraps. Today, as in the case of the LASER, "Invention has become the Mother of Necessity". Technological advancement pursued for it's own sake, only later to be repackaged into consumer products and marketed as the "Next Big Thing". -Jeff Raber, Netizen.

there maybe cases were the plasic surgey is needed ie. after an accedent, but i agree with DragonsDemesne-its a perfect example of amercainisation-capitilism.

It's not for the porn industry...millions of women get them every year...

To feel better about THEMSELVES. Usually it also works, after surgery, n recovery, they often feel better, as long as a favourable result is in order...

So leave women alone who get things done, you'd think breast implants would be the least of your worries, considering the way men stare.

Women do it for THEMSELVES, not attention, and if it really makes them feel better, then it's a wonder, and SOME surgeons actually do it to make patients feel better, n see that smile on their face....

I don't know...

Is healing someone's self esteem not important?

(Yeah, I realize that if our society wasn't so shallow to start with that it wouldn't be an issue...but, it is. So...they're really treating a symptom of our hopelessly beauty-centric society).

Why is it a morality issue, and why do they have to be off saving the world? Such a statement can be taken to another level of argument; all of those who have the ability to become doctors but choose other paths are immoral as they could be saving lives.

Nope, they are fine with what they are doing. The burn victim needs a plastic surgeon, and the person who wants an alteration because they can't accept themselves as they are needs them as well.

That's put too brutally.

The fact is for BOTH victims, and victims of other types of emotional causes for wishing for a change, are both often helped tremendously by surgeries, as we can see by shows, and things now on T.V. The point is the practice really helps people so much, either way, and improves quality of life...somemthing that's important to some people.

Such PC BS! A burn victim is a victim. Someone who doesn't like a wrinkle or the shape of their nose or whatever is not a victim. Sheesh! What, everyone has to be a victim? Please. I'm far from perfect, and even have extra imperfections added (scars), one being where my nose was ripped almost totally off, but I am not a victim. You don't have to be a victim to say, "You know what? My nose could use reducing or something, so I'm gonna employ a plastic surgeon to have it done." And, there's nothing brutal about that. No apologies are necessary if someone wants that, and they do not have to be a victim before they can opt for the surgery!

You misunderstood what I said....

There exist people with mental disorders, which can be just as painful as real scars, and for whatever reason, may feel so unhappy about themselves they wish to change........I still consider these people at least true candidates for surgery..............n yes, victims of their disorder...

I think, ASIDE from this issue, everyone should have an equal right, to emply this, but those who are real victims, especially those whom are burned, should have it done for free from the government.

shesh! you guys make it sound as if they are in pain, which they are not! i dont know about other countries, but in britain we are suffering from a shortage of doctors, and i feel that the doctors that are improving peoples looks, not because they have accendent, but because the person wants it, can be better employed HEALING THE INJURED AND CURING THE SICK, which is what doctors should be doing.
