I know I'm not the only one who's noticed the trend toward the tightening of restrictions in the name of public safety and the public opinion in support of it. People have suggested that it is right for the police to randomly stop and search us, and that is right for a man to be gunned down because the police have a hunch he's a suicide bomber. I guess on a certain level this makes sense after all its my life at stake right? During every modern war and conflict there has been a clamping down on freedoms so I guess none of this should surprise me. History has shown that once the war ended rights and personal freedoms would be restored and life would continue on as it has.

I just want to known when exactly the goverment is planning on giving me back the liberties I have given up in the name of safety. When exactly can we declare victory and say that its safe to let down our guard? When does the War on terror (or the struggle against extremism for that matter) end?

Your Liberties are history now. What we have lost is gone forever. Try to keep what you still have. No US Cabinet Department wants to lose what it has, so Congress will keep the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) well stocked with former American Liberties.

When does the War on terror (or the struggle against extremism for that matter) end?
It doesn't matter when or if it ends. People will put up with quite a bit for a false sense of security. How many times have you heard of businesses paying criminals "Protection Money" not to rob them? Just that example is in dozens of movies because it has happened, probably still does in places.
Do you really want your Liberties back? Next couple of elections, try to vote for the Third Party Candidates who share your concerns. Get your friends to, also. Only when we get a new Government through the Ballot Box will you see a return of the Liberties you asked about. Oh, there will be small victories, giving some of them back--conditionally, I think. Will they outweigh what we still have to lose?
By the way, I capitalized Liberties for a reason.

"Liberties" to me is just laughable. Oh thank you so much for my right to walk around without being searched. Oh thank you for allowing me to drive a car, so I can get to work, so I can afford food to stay alive, so I can work, so I can afford food (you get the point). I don't need a bunch of decrepit, degenerate, senile, chicken hawk, old, wrinkled, retarded, megalomaniacal, narcissistic, pompous, self-absorbed, sociopaths to tell me what I have the right to do.

No, I can't stop them from doing whatever they feel like. I can't stop them from writing more words on more paper to take away words from other paper. Nor can I stop the average morons from just rolling over like puppies to whatever these idiots say.

They can take their words and paper and stick them somewhere. If you give up your "words on paper" for a false sense of security you don't deserve your "words on paper" or security.

This world is frakkin retarded.

Great question!

My little response is never. What's happened over the years cannot be removed from sight or mind.

It's the Federal Governments Sworn Responsibility to protect the Constitution and the People. Therefore, I think, protection will be there but at a cost of lesser freedom.

I believe cost of freedom will expand throughout the free world, so the USA people will not feel the pinch alone.

no no no NO!

NO BLOODY REVOLUTION!

We can win this using the powers given to us in the constitution. And it will be easy as long as the Democrats/Republicans don't cheat.

All we have to do is VOTE FOR A LIBERTARIAN to win in the next election.

Libertarians believe in small central government and strong power to the states. They also believe that the US Constitution is the law of the land. And oppose super corporations.

They are our best bet for the future... still that isn't saying much considering the no names running the party. But they are the only party willing to give the people more rights.

IMO, Libertarian Party is the only party that is for the people.

BTW, I used to be a republican because they used to be for small government...but I guess things change.

The way my history teacher explained it, the system is set up in such a way that even if most people voted libertarian it wont happen. it's set up so only a democrat or republican can win, i dont know if this is true but it doesnt surprise me all that much.

Well I think what your history teacher was trying to say is that the way the system is set up ONLY the Republicans and Democrats have CONTROL over the Media. The Media never puts on a libertarian or shows a libertarians views. Also many people decide who they are voting for based on the Presidential Debates...which Libertarians are conveinently left out of. This is total BS. The media WANTS you to decide between 2 WEALTHY FAMILY's that have the same goal. Globalization and nWo.

The Internet source for Libertarian views. But I think thhat a lot of the people are starting to get pissed. and if they only knew about the Libertarian Party.

We can change the world...spread the word!

Vote Libertarian in 2008 & take back America. the land we love.

I think you all should of recieved a "Liberty & Freedoms Return Slip" in the mail.
You just fill that out, follow the thumb print kit instructions, swab your mouth, fill the vial with your blood and send it back and you'll get a microchip that you can either inject under your skin or just wear as dog tags if you'd prefer.

Then, when as Bush says 'the job is done', you'll be able to go down to the local Police station and exchange your biometric chip and database records for your liberties and freedom again.

They can't set a date for the exchange but they promise when the 'job is done' and the Freedoms they take are no longer threatened by Terror, you'll defenitly get them back soon after.

Meanwhile, rest assured that God is only blessing America because he likes them the best out of the entire Universe (let alone our solar system
- Triva question of the day: Can you work out which one of those dots in the Milky Way is our Sun and Solar System? Here's a hint, theres 400 billion stars (plus or minus 200 billion) in just our galaxy alone!).

God Bless America

I think it's about time we start asking God to bless the world as a whole instead of playing favourites.

I doubt he pays much attention to marketing and graphical work.

Thats what they WANT you to think. They want you to think that the peoples powers and rights will be restored one day. But when? This has been going on since the Civil War when the Federal Government defeated American States and took away States Rights as set forth in the 10th Amendment.

You should know that many of the provisions of Patriot Act II have been made PERMANANT by the last vote after the London Bombings. Also The new Supreme Court Ruling that the Federal Government can SEIZE YOUR LAND and turn it over to a corporation for profit. These Rights are NOT coming back while a Republican or a Democrat is in office. The Democratic Party is NOT the Libertarian Party...Howard Dean only wants you to think that.

The truth is if you vote Republican or Democrat, EITHER way YOU LOSE

boogyman, name (1) Liberty that you PERSONALLY have lost since 9/11.

Name just (1) that you had before 9/11 and is now lost.

I can't think of any, unless your name is Akmed and your a visiting student from Pakistan. Than your gonna be jacked up at the airport with good reason. Other than that, it seems like your railing against our government for no good reason.

Liberty is a whore who must be courted on a bed of corpses- (I forget who said it)

Liberty being endowed by the creator, can never be taken, nor given away by any man or government. Sure others might infringe on it from time to time, however it is up to the person to exercise his liberty in order to rectify the situation.

For example: You can commit a crime and the law can incarcerate you, however you will always have the option of escape. Whether or not you take this option of course depends on your will to be free.

Laws are nothing more than written down threats, that you either fear the reprecussions of, or not. Any man who is truly free does not allow words to govern their actions. If you feel less free, perhaps that is your own fault.

A lot of you people crack me up. What a bunch of whiners and crybabies.
First off you all act like you are living in some kind of prison country or something.
You are asking when you are "going to get your liberties back"?
What "liberties" have any of you really lost? What in the world are you even talking about?
Having your bags searched as a precaution in terroristic times is hardley a loss of any reall libery that is going to affect your way of life or what you want to do in or with your life. Get real.
you are the same crybabies that complined that although our authorites had warnings of the 911 attack before it happened, that those authorities did nothing about it until it was to late. Now, you same crybabies are complining that the authories are actually trying to do what little they can to prevent another possible attack, simply because they are searching more bags then usual. How many of you have even had your bags searched in your everyday lives, probabaly none of you and even if you did , so what? How did it radically change your freedom or way of life just because someone searched your bags in an effort to keep America safer? Stop crying over nothing. You still have the same liberites you had your whole lives, so what are you even talking about?
A lot of you act like the Gov't. has imposed martial law or something.
I think the Bush administration sucks, but nothing has been done yet to afffect your liberites.
Move to China or north korea and see how few liberites you actully have and then you'd have something to cry about.
Having bags checked more is a very small deternet that has been imposed and it hardly is affecting anyones freedom in any bad way. how many of you are having your bags checked everyday and how many of you are even travling with bags everyday.
I use a bookbag for school everyday and i have never been searched.
Stop making mountains out of anthills already.
Instead of crying over nothing and sitting at your computers posting crybaby nonsense on this site, why not do something useful and help out with the problem. Become a part of an EMS, join the police force, the fire company (none of those even rquire college). for those of you that go to college, join the FBI, the DEA, the CIA, etc., etc. and help out to protect your country and liberties, instead of just having apathy and crying about things that are not even affecting your way of life. Notice i did not say join the military, i feel the military is being misused by the Bush administration.
also the gov't. can not just seize your land. It has to pay you for the land and there has to be a good reason that they need it. I have not heard of a mass of land seizing going on anywhere.
What everyone should be complaining about is the fact that our water ports need A LOT more protection and inspections then they have right now. A new orginization should be formed for this purpose. It would employ a lot of people, make things safer and give a lot of you a purpose in life (if you applied for the jobs) then just crying about liberites that none of you have even lost in the first place.

Gregnow-Whilst I do partially agree with what you said, I have to disagree on your point that nothing has changed (as someone else mentioned as well). Sure most people have not been searched on grounds of suspicion for "terrorist" activity, myself included. That still does not change the fact that now it is considered alright to do so. Ten years ago everyone would of been up in arms about such a thing, now however after 9/11, and london it is somehow acceptable.

Besides, the bag searching you mention is not the only thing. Provisions of the patriot act affect many sectors of life, from the library, to your mortgage, and cellphone applications. To say that nothing has changed simply because you have not experienced it, is ignorant at best.

Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I think you have a real good point on crybabies and such. Some should even get and learn how to spell and such too.

People are woried about their families, sons and daughters who have not yet learned the simple skills of of riding a firetruck and learning how to hold the hose tight and aim the water at the fire.

Simple things but important things just the same.
