THE reason the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad were bombed is because the UN has been taken over by the US and turned into a dark joke and a malignant force, according to one of the UNs most internationally respected former leaders.

Denis Halliday, the former UN Assistant Secretary-General and UN Humanitarian Co-ordinator in Iraq, attacked the UN as an aggressive arm of US foreign policy in the immediate aftermath of the truckbomb attack on the UN mission in Baghdad which killed at least 23 people many of whom were Hallidays former friends and colleagues.

"The West sees the UN as a benign organisation, but the sad reality in much of the world is that the UN is not seen as benign, said Halliday, who was nominated for the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize. The UN Security Council has been taken over and corrupted by the US and UK, particularly with regard to Iraq, Palestine and Israel."

www.sundayherald.com...

What do we make of that...?

He goes on to say the U.N should stop being a "division of the state department" & " make clear that the UN and the US are not one and the same.

So. The U.N are pulling out of Iraq until the U.S can guarantee a 'level of security' for them to operate in, but their level of security is compromised by their very relation with the U.S. The terrorists will no doubt see little difference between them as targets as a result of that relationship. Probably never more so than since the start of the conflict.

If the U.N can't work properly in Iraq the situation for the people can only be worse, and with the U.S refusing to budge on the power issues it looks like I might finally realize my dream of seeing Kofi Annan lose his rag and trash a conference.

or at the very least a few more cracks in relations.

Cheers Blade runner.

Well Whatayaknow, it looks like Al Qaeda agrees with Denis Halliday...

Well a statement posted in their name does anyway, as well as claiming responsibility for the bombing.

"So why the United Nations? Number one, the United Nations (is against Islam), it is a branch of the American state department and it wears the robes of an international organisation."

"The double standard policies of the United Nations are against Arabs and Muslims. This issue does not need to be proved. It is clear, like the light of the sun at midday"

The claim was posted on the myislah.org discussion board and dated august 19th. The site, unsurprisingly, now seems to be down.

First off, The UN is being used as a "tool" by everyone, including France!
The UN's 'claim' that they are pulling out until the US can "guarentee a level of security for them to operate properely" is total BS! The UN turned down US protection and "adequate security" because, according to the UN, they didn't want to look menacing or threatening....
The UN thus 'selected' their own security around the UN compound. It was from this process that investigators have somewhat determined that the job was done from the "inside." Meaning, the UN did not adequately "screen" ther own "security," determining if they had hired Saddam sympathizers, etc.
The UN is a freakin JOKE....blue helmets and very little means of protecting themselves, etc.! Now they want to blame the US? I say pack your damn bags and carry massive azz back to cossy little offices and try to direct the situation from there! "Oil for Food" program?! The UN robbed the Iraqis of countless millions if not billions but because of a "terrorist" act, they are now heading out of Iraq and then have the balls to point a finger at the US. Let them...I got a 'finger' to point at them too!
Personally, the UN is frustrated, obviously by the US and other 'nations', but I think the realization that the UN is ultimately powerless, useless, outmodded, etc. is sinking in to those higher-than-thou bureaucrats!
Ever since this Gulf War II started and the US and a few other nations ultimately bypassed the UN on the issue of Iraq, the UN has been muttling along and has had no intentions of helping or lending a hand in Iraq or even elsewhere.
You send the French to Liberia to do a "man's" job and then both the French and the UN want to play semantics and call for the US to do something.
The UN steadily condemns on this issue BUT YET keeps turning to the US....I mean WTF?!

The article is BS, to me anyhow...

and what a great job you Americans with the help of Blair have done, lets see first of no WMD but 1500 men sent by America are now hunting for a paper trail instead to proove that if there was no WMD then they had plans to make them haha, man last time i looked a paper trail never got use a WOMD and certainly never killed anyone

now we have Iraq that has clearly been proven by now was no threat to America what so ever except in things like OIL. now Iraq is a huge Vacume for terrorist factions to move in when before the war they were not, we have mass murder on huge scales, rapes, lootings mass arrests of thousands of men, Iraqis have very little water, scarce electricty, lack of medicines, no jobs, no money, the whole structure of the economy (well what was left after those 12 years of genocidal sanctions Britain and America put on them in the disguise of the U.N?) has collapsed. we have Iraqis saying it was BETTER under Sadam and what Americans are doing is worse than Sadam did now theres a surprise what a thing to say, you would think people were being mysteriously took of the street or dragged out fo there beds at gun point infront of there wives and childrfen, you would think trigger happy soldiers were killing civillians or that the odd Jornalist who knows to much is murdered, you would think that America had admitted to not knowing the number of civillians it has kidnapped of the streets and from there homes? the way the Iraqi people are speaking.

you would think that there is total caos and fear and a sense of dread since the victors of colonial ambitions i mean liberators came to there so called rescue.

tell me why was the war called Iraqi freedom? when it was supposed to about WMD also what are they now free from? lets look at this nothing ahs changed infcat it is worse now than before the war? the Iraq council does not have a voice America has the last say in any desicion, to be honest the whole thing was down right dirty wrong murderous and a crime in itself.

The U.N has never been benighn, its a jump off point for the NWO and one world govornment.

With or without the U.S., the UN in itself is an ideal of evil. Now its outmoded. The U.N. never cared about Iraq, never cared about anything. Just its own agenda.

UN is evil. Period.

Assumptions being expressed here are questionable.

If the terrorist attack on the UN Building was as it appears, and not another in a series of complicit staged events, then the primary message behind it is not based on any assessment of the relationship between the US and the UN and the management of Resolutions.

The primary message (if fundamentalist jihad warriors carried this out to be martyred) is:

"Infidels out".
