A plea to the USA and Europe

It has become clear that the USA and Europe do not understand the threat of terrorism. I, AtheiX, as a European, as a favor to both our ally and to Europe, should present my view of what is the threat and what should be done.

The USA should be grateful to Europe for the contribution of some of the European countries (France and Poland) to the American combat for independence. The USA should be grateful to West Europe for West Europe's allied stance during the Cold War, when West Europe was allied with the USA against the USSR, signing the NATO founding treaty (against the USSR) in 1949. The USA should be grateful to Europe for it's allie stance during the war in the Persian Gulf in 1991.

Europe should be grateful to the US for freeing Europe from the Nazi tyranny. Without the US, all of Europe (and North Africa) would be under Nazi rule. Since 1939 the US conducted the "cash-and-carry" policy, and since 1941 conducted the "lend-lease" policy, supplying the anti-Nazi coalition. The Americans also helped Great Britain to kick out the Wehrmacht from North Africa, landed in Great Britain, and from there landed in continental Europe and freed Europe from Nazi tyranni. Even the USSR, despite being protected by winter, wouldn't win, but it did, thanks to the fact that it received BIG help from the US. Europe should be grateful to the US for the help Europe received after WWII by the power of Marshall's plan. Europe should be grateful to the US for its allied stance during the Cold War.

The goal of the terrorists is to divide the countries of the anti-terrorist coalition. They mustn't be allowed to achieve their goal.

Each side - the US and Europe - must apologise to each other, and must ally with each other to defeat terrorism. Threads like "What do you hate about America?" and "What do you hate about Europe?", and sites like www.i-hate-france.com only make the situation worse. Americans should apologise to Europeans for their arrogance, and the Europeans should help the Americans in war on terror - Germany should send as many troops as possible to Afghanistan, and all of Europe should help the US if there will be a war with Iran or North Korea, both of which have nuclear weapons and may sell them to terrorists.

Generally said, USA and Europe must apologise to each other for what they have done to each other and must ally closely with each other.

It seems to me that you feel the root cause of terrorism is that Europe and America need to apologize to each other.

Who could apologize? My (US) President is not responsible for my opinion of various nationalities, whether good or bad. An apology to Americans from some other world leader wouldn't be anything but a PR manouvre. It would lessen his/her standing in the eyes of his compatriots, and wouldn't actually "DO" anything in the world.

Ronald Reagan, whom I believe to have been an extremely perceptive world leader, spoke about this topic once. He was asked by a reporter about the fact that a certain central American country hated us for reducing their foreign aid package. Here is my paraphrase of his comments.

Reagan said that the US has no right to expect another country's love. You cannot make people love you. You cannot earn their love. Love is a gift that cannot be coerced or cajoled out of someone. So have no right or reason to expect someone else's love.

But we, and all people are entitled to respect. We cannot make another person love us, but we are entitled to their respect, just as they have a right to be treated with respect by us. So instead of laboring to please someone who may or may not ever love us, it is a lot healthier to work toward earning their respect. In the final analysis. We cannot control other peoples' thoughts, and we are not responsible for their emotions. What we ARE responsible for is our own actions.

* * * *

Now, with all that said, I don't think the ROOT CAUSE of terrorism has anything to do with the US or Europe. It has to do with a radical interpretations of the Quran.

Bombs are going off in Nigeria. Coptic Christians in Egypt are beaten, and the women are raped and taken home as legal brides. Buddhist policemen in Thailand are being beheaded by muslim mobs. These actions have NOTHING to do with either the United States, France or Poland. They were carried out by people who are convinced of their own moral superiority, and of their neighbors' own sub-human status.

It has nothing to do with how you or I, or even our nations, feel.

You cannot negotiate with religious terrorists. You have nothing with which to bargain. You have nothing they want. The only solution they accept is for every person to join their religion, or die trying.

None of us wants to hear this, but the truth is what it is, regardless of how it makes us all feel.

I didn't say that the cause of terrorism has. I said that the USA and Europe must unite in order to DEFEAT terrorism.

I agree, but I don't think the author meant that the cause of terrorism is the seperation of US and European countries.

I think the author is saying that we need to be united in order fight terrorism..especially the US and Europe. True, the terrorist would love for us be not work together....it would make thier work easier. The more seperated we become, the harder it will be to pass crucial intel from and to each other...which is key is combating terrorism.

Maybe AtheiX can elaborate on what he meant.

EDIT: he already did......we posted at the same time

Oddly, I believe, terrorists will soon learn diverse ‘western’ countries and peoples under the constant, continued threat of terrorism will drive even once differing countries together to face the common threat. The riff is coming from the ‘peaceful’ Islamic community aiding and fostering prejudices while spreading ignorance through silence and general inaction.

The ‘peaceful’ Islamic community needs to come out of hiding, break their long relative silence and speak loudly, publicly and specifically against these atrocities around the globe directly to the rest of the billions of co- inhabitants of which share this world and counter the spew which is heard daily coming from the Mosques and Islamic clerics in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Iran and the like.

this is bewildering, and the fact that some persons or people might have an oune of say regarding the general US populace is more then daunting. they must take votes for these kind of ordeals, which begs the question does public opinion result in a substanial topic for our politicians to be deligating over>??

mabye a socialist party is in due > red green blue yellow <

terrorism will shift with the time, the battles will be fought and the power will move as the currents flow among the water.

socialism will swim

"The goal of the terrorists is to divide the countries of the anti-terrorist coalition. They mustn't be allowed to achieve their goal."

I disagree
they are trying to kick our military out of saudi arabia, afghanistan, iraq, UAE, and kuwait.

I can't blame them for that, but their tactics could use some improvements.
