The question I want answered is if this has been observed in humans, what about animal DNA? Have there been animal species that have become extinct not through natural selection but through degeneration of the Y chromosome?

Either gender is capable of being declared redundant in future if its only contribution is chromosomal.

There was an outer limits episode where there were like 12 men frozen and there were only women left that reproduced by cloning. Look what we've done in the past 10 years in genetics, I think something can be done in 125,000... maybe we'll force ourselves to evolve into grays, woo!

The y chromosone is pretty much undefended, being smaller than the x, hence, why men mostly recieve sex linked traits like color blindness and hemophilia.

It doesnt surprise me, lower sperm counts int he western world. But male offspring still, have a higher mortality rate in all species. the y chromosone is traditionally unstable, it doesnt surprise me mother nature is thinking of making it obselete. she probably decided sexual reproduction has been tried, now a new form of reproduction is needed, perhaps trisexual?

The most sucessful form of reproduction is asexual, and many females in the animal and plant kingdoms often reproduce by themselves sucessfully.

once the male is done doing his thing, in many species, like spiders and scorpions, the female eats him, showing the little value beyond spreadint thier dna that males posses in the grand scheme of things....

I read that article in The Times some time ago. I'm not to worry though, fortunately I won't be alive to see a world run by women.

But on the otherhand I can see an advantage to being there

In all honesty though, I really doubt that this will come to fruition. I don't think men or women would really find this that appealing. As a man I find women far too appealing to consider life without them and I doubt women would enjoy an earth without men...it really would be quite pink and boring...lol

This reminds me of a 'Star Trek, the Next Generation' episode where there was a world run by women. The majority ruled over a docile male population. But there was a minority that preferred an equal male partner & were living as outcasts & criminals of society with these males.

Like I said before, variety is the spice of life.

The biggest conspiracy that the latter 20th century feminist age launched was the one concerning the routine loss of men's socks (one only per pair to the Sockmuda Triangle of course).

Well, since traditionally, the only use men have been to women is a good paycheck and decent sex, and now, since men seem to fail in both catagories, thier traditional uses have come to an end. Now with moder techknoledgy, the invention of batteries and the wide variety of...male replacement products available for any female out there.......im still wondering what the use of the male population is. Ive actually known alot of guys who have complained that they once turned thier wives onto the idea of a mechanical buddy, now get nothing from them because the mechanical buddy has replaced them. Since men most likely invented mechanical buddies, they have......created thier own doom.

I won't get into the "other sex bashing" but I will say the study makes sence.
The planet obviously knows there are far too many of us Humans. Something needs to slow us down in the reproduction department. Eliminating most of the males would partially accomplish this task.

Although your idea about male chromosone degeneration has merit.......I have been fostering a similar idea, what i call the suicide call of nature, for certain groups of Humanity, mainly, like nature, pulling an experiemnt of her own, when a certain spiecies or subspiecies hits a certain internal clock button, eventually, the drive to procreate and breed will disappear, thus, the group dying out. I still havent seen any articvles or info on this, its a thought ive entertained, based on certain observations and such of birthrates and reproduction.

I plan to breed eventually, much to the dismay of the rest of the world, but Im not here for thier amusement, they are here for MINE.
