Now please prove me wrong.

I do...though come live with me in the bush...I'll prove you real wrong.

I've retreated into the bush for extended periods of time, with little more than a single days food (to get out of the bush on if things go pear-shaped out there), basic equipment, rifle and knife...the forest is all one big Grocery Store anyway, just that the produce isn't nicely packaged. Shyte, I was hunting and being taught bushcraft ever since I was strong enough to hold a rifle. Even before then...as a baby my Dad would take me out hunting in a 'backpack' with him...he said its the only way I would settle as a kid...cry my eyes out all day if I was inside the house, but calm quiet and loving it once out in the forest.

Dad taught me bushcraft, how to survive, to track and stalk, to hunt and strike as silently/unnoticed as possible, to prepare game and build shelters. He and Mum (in particular) also taught me the old Rongoa (medicenes) that you can find in the bush, the plants etc to use for different healing properties.

Maybe its coz I'm Native...and my people have an affinity with the land/sea...its just where I feel I fit, its home, its REAL...the city while convenient is just too fake...

Believe me...if the world went to hell in a handbasket, people wouldn't see me for dust, I'd grab my hunting pack, rifle, shotgun and disappear into the bush...no worries...as I suspect many of my countrymen (New Zealand) would.

Peace,
ALIEN

Question: If a major catastrophe struck the planet earth, and everything was in chaos, what would you do? How would you prepare?

Depends on the catastrophe...if global, and we'd be wandering through aftermath...I'd likely head for the impact site...as I'd rather go up quick, then die of starvation, etc. But, that's only if it was kind of a sure thing that society was pretty much toast... Otherwise, arm up, stock up, learn up....

The SiloHome is already built to withstand a nuclear blast. There's 40,000 sq ft in there. How else are you going to survive a nuclear winter? For 2.1 million, its a steal.

What Alien said.

I would probably have to regularly loot a liquor store for beer though.

A well stocked 72 hour kit, a 4WD Ford F250, and a well stocked deer lease with cabin about 2 hours away, way out in the boonies.

Although the deer lease cabin would be nice, and would provide lots of amenities of home, as Alien said, it is perfectly feasible to survive off the land, if you have a bit of training and experience.

I would like to see an American go a week without internet, computer, and television.

Been there, done that. Thousands of Americans do it every day. Nobody notices them though. People walk right by them like they were invisible. Most people cannot even look them in the eye when they pass them.

Well put.
