Your Brain is "F" ing out! Crazy brain reaction.

I received this email from a friend today and found it quite amusing.

It is very weird how the brain reacts, just take a look.
Sorry if you may have seen it already but it's new to me.


Count every "F" in the following text:

WRONG, THERE ARE 6 -- no joke.
READ IT AGAIN !
The reasoning behind is further down.
The brain cannot process "OF".
Incredible or what? Go back and look again!!
Anyone who counts all 6 "F's" on the first go is a genius.

OK So let's see how many claim to be genius.

Yea it took me like 4 times!!! The last one was a dusy

"of" doesnt sound like it has an "F" in it, so that may be a reason.

Amazing, even when you told me there were 6 and I went back, and looked at eaach word I still couldnt see the of's.

Could it be similar to the way our brain procsses mispelled words, that is our brain see the correct word even though it's terribly misspelled?

That is very interesting. My first thought was that I would count every letter as I went left to right and count the F's without actually reading the text as you would normally read a sentence. I was just counting letters and I still missed the F's in the word Of. What makes us miss these letters in this particular word? Do they have an explanation?

Hate to sound like the dork who....but I counted six.....I'm always wary of these type of exercies and when they tell me to try and do something that seems easy, I make sure that it is........

I scanned each line twice without paying attention to the phonetics.....

For a really weird brain reaction, Try this..

Sit down (or stand) and rotate your right leg in a clockwise circle.

Keep doing it, and write a number six in the air with your hand. Your leg will change direction, and there's nothing you can do about it!

Wow, you're right. It must be a conspiracy!

I must admit, I got all 6 on my first try. I've done these exercises before, and was keen on the "Of" trick. The first time I did it (ever) however, I missed 'em, then found my mistakes. The reason we don't (same reason ben messed up) was because we can't look at a word without reading it. We may not pay attention to the meaning, but we're still reading the word. You don't see "O" and "F" you see "OF." Of sounds like "OV" so you skip.

kegs, I'm going to get you for that one. I hadn't heard that before. In a similar vein, my favorite is to take your outstretched hand, palm up, and keep it loose. Press down firmly (ignore the pain) about 2-3 inches up your arm from your wrist, then move closer to the hand and repeat. You should press down about three times. Your hand will close.
