i hav been told by someone that AIDS will be mutating soon so that when someone sneezes with the disease it will be able to be caught.

You cant predict into what any living thing will mutate into.

If it comes to that, then the powers to be would have to give their hidden cure...

You might want to offer some kind of evidence for this.

Otherwise it becomes another addition to the "unfounded rumourmill"

(it would take one heckuva mutation to change the current strains to that degree, for one thing...)

It HAS started to mutate, but not into an airborne strain. It's becoming drug resistant, and faster to go from HIV to AIDS. There is a strain that can take months to become full blown AIDS instead of years. If it ever went airborne you could kiss most of the worlds population goodbye, but there's no way to ever predict that it would.

Actually, if you think about it, HIV is not a very successful virus.

It kills its host.

Aids is well known as a virus that "mutates". It always mutates, and has always mutated from the begining......that is why it is so difficult to find a cure.

Yes, I'm painfully aware that it already mutates....

I was referring to the mutations that would have to take place to enable the "insta-transmission" mentioned in the earlier posts

(the flu virus mutates every darn year....that's part of the fun of virology. Trying to fight the mutations)

ERrmmmm it isnt already evolving or mutating it always did that.

Every virus has the capability to mutate but this doesn't imply that all viruses can mutate to airborne strains.
AIDS attacks the T-cells which inhibits and impairs the immune system. A flu viruses transmission is different because the virus can become inbedded in the lungs (pneumonic) just for starters which allows transmission by sneezing.

The goal of any virus is to replicate itself. Currently although AIDS is becoming resistant to drugs can replicate itself in the hosts body even though it will eventually kill the host it has a lengthy time table to do that. If the AIDS virus were to become tranmitted via air the virus would probably die outside the body because the time it would take for it to latch onto another T-cell would be considerable.
Becoming resistant to drugs doesn't necessarily mean airbourne transmission is eminett it just means that the virus is reorganizing it's DNA to stay alive.

One of the fears is that someone with AIDS will also end up with the Avian Flu. The fear here is that somehow the 2 virii team up into one nasty bug, having the transmission possbility of the flu and the immune problems of AIDS.

AIDS renders the immune system susceptible to virtually any invader.

That can mean the common cold, influenza, candidiasis, and anything inbetween (including "bird flu") can wreak havoc where perhaps it would be dealt with efficiently in a normal immune system.

To have both present is just indicative of the obvious: a lousy immune system leaves you open to everything.

Any chance of you finding that article from Discover? I'll try to find it myself, too

Edit: Only thing I can find is:

Discover magazine link , which doesn't really link the two....

Cool! Then you wont mind if I tell ya that the whole HIV causes AIDS 'fact' could very well be a lie, a lie that has mutated to epic proportions which affects the whole world.

And it just might not.

Most (if not all - I've seen so much of it regurgitated in many, many places) of the information here is at best out-dated; at worst, a meld of bad science and disproven theories.

The kind of global conspiracy we'd be talking about would involve more people than the 9/11 Conspiracies (and that's a lot of people). Knowing that humans are notoriously horrid at keeping secrets, it would be unlikely for such a conspiracy to still be taking place.

And that's without going into the actual science (or sadly, lack thereof) in on the page cited.

Crayon......that is soooooo scary.....(i'm being serious).....an airborne/mutating virus!!!.....my....now I won't be able to sleep tonight!!!

Unfortunately I no longer have that magazine. And I cannot find the exact article on the discover web site. From what I can remember, it was 1 maybe 2 sentences in regards to it happening. With lots of fluff words that said both AIDS and the Avian Flu would have to drastically change themselves to be able to join together.

But, I did find the article talking about getting multiple HIV infections.

I read an article in the paper awhile ago explaining why AIDS mutates the way it does. AIDS is a very sloppy virus, so when it replicates it's DNA in the host's body it will copy some of the information wrong and an entire new string will form in the host. They are I think trillions of different variations of the virus that can occur inside anyone at anytime. And then we throw in the resistance it builds to drugs over time and you have quite a destructive virus.

Right.

Anything can mutate. Everyone probably has a unique (slight) mutation in them according to any virus/cold that they get.

As said earlier, air-born aids isn't possible. There is no literal way it could survive without a host cell for that long.

You can cure aids and cancer and anything for 145 dollars.

Oxygen chamber for 3 hours a day for a week. or 2

And your proof of this is......?

Source?

Anecdote?

Anything?

(Or were you being sarcastic and I missed it? That's possible. I miss things occasionally)
