Ok at the moment in europe the gas prices are high as never before. Curently you pay about 1,16 Euros for one litre of gas which is about 1,397 dollars per litre.

My question is and im interested in your opinions: How much farther this can go?

This is not a "i wanna drive around and pay not much" post. the fact is that with gas prices rising higher and higher we will sooner or later have a real crisis. Especially because our society is very very dependend on gas and other oil products.

Beside the fact that gas proppelled vehicles pollute the air and environment i think NOW is the time to start using alternate resources!

I say its about 3-5 years until we get in serious trouble..not only because of the prices but also the mindless burning of fossile resources and its side effects.

My fear is that it will run like always in our society...we need a big punch in the face before we realize whats going on, the problem is this time the punch could knock us down badly.

It seems like your asking how much will people pay for gas. I think people will pay quite a bit for gas, but what will probably happen is that peoples driving habits will change. For example, lets say gas reaches $5.00 a gallon, would people pay that much? Sure. It seems that most people have no reservation hopping into their car and driving down the road to the grocery store, video store etc. But if gas prices get really high, those people would start walking to the grocery and reserve the car for special occasions or times when you really have to drive. Sadly though, I feel that many Americans would still drive to work even if there were other, perhaps cheaper alternatives.

What will happen is people will spend less on other goods, if you need a car to get to work you need petrol, people will pay the higher cost for convenience. This will lead to a downfall in spending on consumer goods, which is happening in Britain right now. This problem has been rearing its head for some time now, lets get another source of power for cars.

thats a great idea lets start making cars that run on other fuels .
lets see hydro electricty propain theres three to start Never mind the fact that even making these cars will take billions of barrels of oil and even electricty cars will need oil products to stay running.
but hay lets just ignore all that and make them after all in the long run it WILL cut down by 30% maddy the amount of oil needed .
O but i forget it will take 10 years from MASS production untill we even cut the number of oil run cars in half and 20 to finly get ride of the last of them.
can you say a little to little a little to late?
even assuming we still have 5 trillion GOOD type barrels of oil still left at 30 billion a year that ten years MAX and in 5 we have a magor reduction of oil production hit.or mabby sooner .
so bettter start talking to God as it will take a mircial to keep not the econamie going but civoliation its self from just collapising into compleat casos.
