Listen Up PTS!

Hey everybody! Just wanted to say congratulations to all of those selected to represent ATS in the election. All well deserved! And a BIG THANX to everyone who voted for me. I will do my very best to represent each and every one of you, irregardless of our differences.

This thread is for all of you to tell me what is on your mind right now regarding Politix@ATS. If you have any concerns or any ideas, I wanna hear about it.

Help me to make this the best damn place on the net for political conversation and debate.

I'll have a look through the Politics forum and attempt to workout what are the "main" problems if in fact I can find any and let you know. You might wish to get them to place a area on the Politics part where we can keep this thread so we can respond straight to you and on that forum instead of on this thread and forum.

I want members to stop thinking that Mods moving a thread to PTS is meant as a censorship action. IT IS NOT!!!

I move threads to PTS because they fit the category there better.

PTS need to stop being the hated stepchild of ATS. I'm here to assist you in way I can to make that change ECK, just let me know how when you figure it out.

How about a general cleanup or re-cleanup of PTS [resort through topics, etc.]
Crack down more on the abusive nature of PTS, etc.

I dont think members understand that politics/ unless there is a conspiracy envolved is not for ATS.

WW, this is, I think my biggest concern for PTS. You hit it on the head. After giving it much thought, my opinion is that it is viewed as the stepchild of ATS because it is not scored in the same manner. Thus, the incentive drops precipitously. I don't mean to sound shallow. I have never posted at ATS or PTS or BTS or any TS to score points. But I HAVE noticed the descrepancy. Perhaps some members do feel slighted due to the lack of points given per post here. You spend say 20 minutes writing a reply and then you see the house only considers it worth 2 points.. that is a SLAP IN THE FACE!

It is my main goal here at PTS to keep things civil. It's ok to disagree. It is NOT ok to verbally abuse people. If that's your MO, you should take it elsewhere, grow up and then come back.

I dont get me wrong, I didnt say everyone.

I was just saying to my wife today, that ATS is great like that, you can have diffrent opinions and sit in the chat for hour and shoot the #.

I have always felt points were over-rated and over-valued, ECK. Your mention of "points" in relation to ATS versus BTS or PTS simply reinforces my feelings on this matter of the "points".

Points should have no bearing on whether a member contributes or not, IMHO. Seemingly, by your mention, yu are saying that they do?

Btw, I "hate" no one.

After going through hours of my own pissing matches with people, I've just found that we can do much better. Each one of us. I've seen a thread by KIDFINGER on military experiences go 14 pages (still active) and nary a flame. It's the most impressive thing I've seen here. I want PTS to be a model for its diversity in membership and views and well respected for the level of diplomacy and goodwill between members. Of ALL political stripes.

If that is the case, then let's score EVERY forum equally and see what transpires.

And that is not to say PTS doesn't have a long way to go in pulling in viewers and discussion. The numbers are way down from the main discussion forums.

Call me biased.. but as a political scientist, I believe POLITIX is THEE most important of forums. All others spring from it.

And religion..

upon further thinking "It might", but I too am not fond of the idea of points being the source of why members chose to post in a forum.

If people are really interested in politics, then it really shouldn't be an issue, but I guess "some" members are shallower than I thought if it is points that stop them posting on PTS.

As for members not able to be civil in their political discussions or resorting to flame wars, well that imo is easily solved, same way it is on ATS with warns from Moderators and bans if the warns continue to add up with members unwilling to treat each other with respect.

Lets look at it this way. How many threads and people locations are members point locations.

50,000 point club, 100,000 club and so on.
