How do you feel about FN's P90?

The ammunition for the P90 is outrageously priced at this time, at about 20$ US a box (50-rounds.) Althought the system itself looks very promising, and, although unorthodox, I think it will have a big impact on the future of arms development.

If you have ever watched Stargate SG-1 or Atlantis you would know this weapon. The only problem I have with this gun is that the ammo is specialized. If it used a more common ammo then it would be almost perfect.

The ammo might suffer from reduced stopping power, but it certainly makes up for it since it can have 50 rounds in a clip, fire at high rates of fire and it's pretty accurate too, great weapon, i'd love one, I didn't like the P90 at first but it grew on me...

Reduced stoppingpower?!?

Well, if compared to hollow point, or a slug, yes of course, but the finesse with the 5.7 ammo is not stoppingpower, but penetration. Like personell armour. It goes straight through. Ask the police, they hate to find that ammo. Their vests won't help them.

it looks a little funny but i like the fact that its compact. the thing that bothers me is its ammo if they could make it for a more standard round than i would definantly be waiting in line for one

Just love this gadget for Close combat. Its really super powerful at short distances. I have tested one against kev plates at about 25 meters with FMJ bullets, you can pierce a class II IBA like butter, and maybe even more at closer distances.

The main problem of the SS190 gewehrpatrone is that it becomes less efficient at longer distances... But it's a SMG, not a combat rifle, and its moreover a spray-and-pray weapon than a precision rifle!
IMO, the best weapon for the purpose it was designed for: small short defence weapon for combat vehicle crew and so! I think it's far better than an UZI, MAC-10 or Skorpion for the use you make of it.

As with most all weapons, it is good for the purpose it was designed. It might look cool as a prop on SG-1, but it isn't for typical combat use. As the paragraph in the link said, it was designed to give folks like tank crews more firepower than the usual pistol.
The right tool for the right job.

On a side note, it would have been an excellent weapon for dog handlers in Germany.

thats why its called the Personal Defense Weapon, the P-90 is for cooks, mechanics, etc. not carrying heavy and bulky weapons.

Don't forget Anti-Terrorist squads and SWAT-teams.

Stopping power is definitly an issue since it has a lighter round thus the chances of someone going down by the round is actually less than a 5.56mm round since it has more mass and more proppelant.

This weapon is definitly alot better than SMGs like the forementioned Uzi, MAC-10/11, Skorpion and ofcourse the MP-5.

It's main purpose IS penetrating body-armor ptoteced combatants, but you also want them to go down when they are hit, often in combat, the round exists cleanly and the combatant is still fit to fight, this happens alot even with 5.56mm rounds even though they are designed to tumble and wound rather than passing straight through like pistol rounds often do.

Back when it was being proposed and still in testing in the 90s my RPG (Role-playing group) had our characters all outfitted with the P90 for our standered SMG... we liked it that much.

Not to metion it has a lithum battery in it to REDUCE the Rate of fire

I dont like it, too fashionable. There is only one weapon: H&K G3

The G3 is one piece of a nice gun, sad to see it being replaced by the G36 in the german army. You have to admit though that it serves a completely different purpose. The P90 is for CQB and it might come in really handy there.

Yes, it serves a different purpose i admit that. Sure its a handy weapon
The Norwegian army have tested the G36, but rumours says that they will end up with a canadian gun(dont know which). They still have the G3 in service.

I myself like the MP-7 a lot more then the P-90. It has such low kick back it can be used with 1 hand, has no problem going through CRISAT body armour at up to 200 meters and a high muzzle velocity of 2400 fps. As well as a 40 round clip. Although I do like the P-90, it just in my opinion can't compete.

That Canadian rifle is the Diemanco C7 and C8, AR-15 clone, the dutch army also uses it...

Whats this?
Are you sure the battery isnt used to light up the sight during nightfight?

"Battery to reduce RoF"... LOL. Not falling for that one!

Edited in a comment to the G3
Btw, The G3 is very nice if the plastic parts are exchanged with handcarved wooden parts i.e. the stock and the front part. In celtic or viking motifs!
