I'm just wondering if there is an opt out list I can sign up for to no longer receive the emails for the council positions. I've received 14 u2u's in 2 days and am now deleting them like spam in an email inbox. Any opt out list I can sign up for or is this political campaigning almost over with?

Hi Orion!
The campaign has been running THIS last week, and the vote ballot I BELIEVE wil also be sent to you u2u this weekend. It should be all wrapped up and finished by Tuesday the 7th.....I believe

Then it will be all over with....so have a little patience with this NEW process the site is implementing.
Sorry about the MASS SPAM u2u's.......S.O just wanted to make SURE the voting member body had a chance to see WHO was on the ballot, in case you did not click any of the threads.......

DONT forget to VOTE.....make your opinion count on ATS!

Thanks for the reply. I have been a little bit curious about all of it but not enough to click on the different threads I saw. I suppose I will have a full u2u box when I check again if I wait a couple of days. I'm getting faster at deleting U2U's now though. I eliminated spam over a year ago from my regular email so this has been a reminder of what it's like all over again. It seems amusing when I first had an email account that I read every single email I got because I would only get 1 or 2 in a month or so and even listed my email address in a public place. That changed. Thanks again.

There are two issues here.

Spam in your personal e-mail account is bad. You own that, and it should not be invaded by unwanted messages that either cost your provided money (bandwidth) or you time (deleting).

Messages from Admin in your ATS U2U account is different. ATS owns your U2U box, and it's natural for us to use it to broadcast announcements of important board business.

Spam, Spam, Spam And Spam

I'm on board with the spam concerns.

In future elections, it may be best to send a single U2U to make sure people don't miss the fact that an election is on.

That single mass U2U would point members to a thread which contains the collected campaign pitches of the various members.

People can go look or just delete that one message, as they see fit.

That way, members are informed and can find out more, but don't receive a bunch of campaign U2U's.

I think that would be an improvement.

What do you think?

Maybe I am on of the odd ones here -- but I actually enjoyed reading the u2u's -- it was a chance to get to know the candidates in a little different way that just by reading their posts in the regular forums -- there weren't that many and the election is over this week.

Come on folks lighten up a bit - if having a few u2u's waiting for you to read (or delete as the individual case may be) is the worst thing going on in your life to complain about you are one lucky person. Be thankful for that and move on.

I'm with you JM

It's easier to get to "know" the canidates with the U2U's. Instead of reading through all of the threads, that is if you were online when they were posted in the first place and didn't miss them.

Besides if it's such a bother for some to click the delete button(you DON'T even have to open the message), then perhaps you are expecting to much from this really cool completely 100% free website. I don't think it's fair to compare these campaign U2U's with spam, and as SO pointed out Simon pays for this bandwidth not you or me.

I appreciate the efforts of the owner and admins and especially the UNPAID moderators and candidates who are only doing this to improve ATS. You have every right to not participate in the elections, but to complain about something so insignificant as a couple extra clicks is
absurd.
IMO anyway

From Me 2 U

I'm not knocking sending U2U's per se. A lot of people would not know about the elections if they didn't get a U2U.

I think it would be best to consolidate the messages, however, so that only one U2U is sent which points to the candidate statements, rather than a separate U2U for each one.

It takes about 10 times as long to complain about the u2u's as it does to press delete.

If you're not interested in learning about the candidates that is obviously your choice, and you are fully empowered to delete their messages.

I don't understand what there is to complain about. You hit delete and they vanish. Is it the 5 seconds of your time that you see "You have 5 new U2U's"??

Yikes...

I am thoroughly amazed that members of ATS, a site that claims to deny ignorance, has so many members who have no tolerance (or interest?) for the ATS council campaign (mentioned in the Campaign Forum) or the u2us designed to inform members about the candidates. :shk:

It's not a problem for me to delete u2u's. I was more concerned with getting so many if I don't log on every day that my inbox gets full and am not able to get a message that I wanted to get because of all the campaigning. However if I know that there aren't going to be 14 u2u's every day for weeks while a campaign is going on, I feel better about it being a temporary thing. If that were the case anyway, I would just let my u2u inbox get full and forget about it until I wanted to use it again.

There's a certain amount of uncertainty here. I didn't know if I was going to just get 16 u2u's or 100's spread out over a couple of weeks. I like this site. I'm just voicing my opinion of what so many u2u's start looking like after you get 14 when you log back in. It takes me a few months to accumulate 14 emails in my regular email account. I guess I would feel a lot different if I got tons every day.

Extra note: I actually work at making things run more efficiently. Therefore it might be hard for me to stop thinking about it.

This mass mailing was a one-time deal for the elections. It was announced here:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

All should be well now and u2u's back to normal.

I would like to state this has been no big deal. I was just wondering if I was going to get hundreds more u2u's since I didn't know how many candidates there were and still don't. I didn't know if everyone who wanted a position was going to u2u me either. No big deal I guess. I won't say anything else about it unless someone wants me to. It's just all new.
