"Naturally the common people don’t want war, but they can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. Tell them they are being attacked, and
denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and endangering the country. It works the same in every country."
(10 points for whoever know the source of the quote...I'll post the correct answer later...credit where credit is due of course!!)
This quote struck me as very powerful, and also very truthful of the power of a nation's trust in it's leaders. I believe there is some truth
behind this in the current US administration.
Somewhere along the way the War on Terror turned into the War in Iraq for freedom and democracy of the Iraqi people. Didn't we learn enough of a
lesson with Vietnam? This time, instead of hand grenades in baby carriages it's psycho suicide car bombers, but either way the result is the same...
You cannot fight a war against an enemy that you cannot see, so when your enemy looks just like the average citizen, you cannot see your enemy. This
will be a war that merely claims more and more American casualties with little, if any, progress.
