What is our(U.S.) policy should something like this Vegas thing happen?

I assume somewhere, tucked away in a filing cabinet or in somebody's top drawer(for all i know) there is a "What If?" plan. I certainly hope we wouldn't attempt to shoot any unknown(and possibly extraterestrial) craft down, i would imagine that even adopting a slightly aggresive posture would be ill-advised.

Granted i don't think we'll find out any time soon(aka the next 44 days), but never-the-less an interesting proposition.

Or everytime there is water on the lens and it distorts the sun. Heck, every time the sun refracts weridly thru the lense, or every time the camera gets 'blown out' by the sun. Remember those posts??

Yep, I have no doubt there is an official protocal in place as a "what if?" response. There are some official documents that even touch on this, shy of outlining the plan.

As an educated guess, I'd assume it'd consist of the following...

1. Military alert status, jets in the air, AA defenses readied, etc.
2. Various audio/visual communication arrays. (ground based)
3. Linguists, Cryptographers, Biologists, Physicists, etc. who are well aware of their roles should this occur (but who probably haven't dusted off the manual in years...)
4. An aerial cordon, establishing a flight perimeter.
5. Weapons satellites readied.
6. Presidential address to the nation.
7. Mt. Weather fully ready to go in case of the unthinkable....(back-up government)

etc. etc.

It would be funny to do a fly by to actually see the pilot who is operating the vehicle .you would probably see john titor or george bush sr. at the helm.
