The Deadly Cell Phone:
The Mossad has often been accused of using cell phones in a number of assassinations.
But the very same technology that instilled fear into the terrorists is being utilized by shadowy figures that once worked with in the M-21 Directorate of Saddam’s Makhabarat- the former Iraqi Intelligence service. A CIA report on the Makhabarat said a clandestine operation called the Al Ghafiqi Project created a viriaty of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), many of witch are being triggered by cell phones to attack US and Coalition forces in Iraq. The CIA notes: “Al Ghafiqi constantly invented new designs or methods to conceal explosives: book, briefcases, belts, vest, thermoses, car seats, floor mats, and facial tissue boxes were all used to conceal Pe4, C4, RDX or TnT;”
US Marines, acting on a tip, recently raided a safehouse in the once terrorist controlled city of Fallujah. They discovered a variety of IEDs, cell phones and radios. The ‘Factory’ was producing bombs connected to other phones that in turn triggers a detonator- a relative easy thing to do if engineered by professionals.
The devices put in areas patrolled by US and Coalition forces and observed by former agents of the Makhabarat and more worryingly, al-Qaida agents. The IEDs are often buried beneath garbage or other discarded material-an empty box, for example. The manner of which certainly suggests M21 involvement or training.
