I live in CT, and in the winter, coyotes come down to feed. The first time I heard one, it sounded like a little girl in trouble, high pitched screeaming, it scared the heck out of me. So I go out to see, and sure enough, a coyote saw me and ran away. I think there are some larger fowl that make screaming noises, turkey or peacock I think ????

Foxes scram like a woman being raped when they are mating in the spring.

The way the light caught it's eyes may have made it red.

Vultures make horrible noises, but thier eye don't reflect red.

Also, not sure where you live, but mountain lions and other large cats can reflect red from thier eyes and make terrible sounds that ressemble people screaming.

If it was 3 in the morning you had to have some sort of light on to see the animal , remember it takes very little light to make certain animals eyes glow red at night.

sounds to me like it might have been a bat. the 'feedback' sound you heard might been its sonar.

how was it positioned in the tree? was it very high off the ground? how far away was it approx? are you sure there was only the one sound? could it have been more?
