How should I report a UFO sighting?

I was at working in my office in a building just a couple of miles north of Miramar Naval Air Station (site of the old Top Gun Flight School) in San Diego. I am looking out my large glass window north and west. It was one of those days with high pressure keeping a cloud bank stationary over local Interstate 5 near the Pacific Ocean but the rest of the sky sunny.
I was talking on the telephone and noticed that moving slowly south through the clouds was a dark shape in the cloudbank. I thought it was something related to the military, what with so many flights from NAS Miramar flying over our building in those days. But it was moving oddly. To give an analogy, imagine a black fish (like a Molly) swimming in a cloudy gray tank of water among plants. It definitely captured my attention, but I continued to talk on the phone with my cousin.
As it appeared to move further to the south, it began to emerge from the clouds. At this point I have confusion between what I thought I saw, and now how I have explained it to myself. I thought I was looking at a huge sphere. As it revealed itself, it was round, had a brownish red, color like a rusted frying pan, and was textured with a faint but distinct pattern of horizontal and vertical bands, slightly curved suggesting roundness, and in the space of each intersections of the bands a pattern that looked octagonal. By this time I was moving from window to window to change my vantage point, but it remained. It must have been lunchtime or thereabouts because nobody else was there, so I couldn't get verification. My cousin was still on the phone on my desk.
Then one of two really amazing events took place: as I was looking, the circle of what I assumed was a sphere, turned into a line. I saw no movement between the stage of circle and line. I did not know what was happening. Then, equally confusing, the line vanished and the circular shape returned, but without a visual experience of this change, and it was smaller and set back deeper in the clouds so I could no longer see the pattern.
Now my words fail me because the next and most amazing event took place. With no sense of it moving, it appeared to change positions, still as a circle, but from one location to another. My analogy is that it looked like a basketball bouncing in the clouds. My interpretation is that I had been looking at a saucer shaped object with its edge down toward the ground, changing positions so that it was edge toward me looking like a line. Then it returned to an edge downward position but some distance further from me returning a little into the cloudbank, and then changing position faster than the eye could track. I changed windows again, but then it was gone. I returned to the phone and asked how long I had been away. About 4 minutes was the response. I scanned the news the next day for similar reports. Nothing
This area was too heavily used by the military for this to have gone unnoticed. The area is just a few blocks north and west of the main entrance to Miramar Naval Air Station, with lots of corporate offices and businesses around. It was early-mid afternoon. Something is just not right about this scenario. If I had called the authorities, would I have been visited by Men In Black?

Well I already posted this on another thread... I'm new here... but good to have all the stories together :-)

As for reporting sightings to the government or any position of political authority... I would consider this foolish as I feel that they are well aware of what is in the skies but would prefer not to promote mass hysteria.

So... my story is that at age 14 I was a huge atheist... excelled at all sciences and thought anything paranormal was reserved for wackadoos and wingnuts. I'm 26 now so we are talking 12 years ago.

I lived in London at the time, in an old converted house that rose out 5 stories up above central London and overlooked many shorter houses, and in the distance we could see apartment blocks, about 15 stories high. Now, when you grow up in that same house, you get to know the view really well, so one night I woke up at roughly 4 am and went into my bathroom which had the view I was just talking about. Something compelled me to look out of the window and I froze when I saw a GIANT flat triangle... shaped like a doorstop with white lights on each corner, it was above one of the big apartment blocks in the distance but close enough for me to become very nervous.

As someone who would have ridiculed such a story as a trick of the mind, I thought I was going crazy when I kept looking at this thing, it wasn't moving, or going away, just hovering there with no sound and I started to get very very scared, realizing that it must be real and thinking that if somehow it knew that I saw it, it would take me away.

My father's room was next door so I ran in there, I didn't want to wake him up in case they took him too (I know, I know), dove under the covers and convinced myself that what I saw wasn't real, that I had imagined it. I lay paralyzed with fear, then ten minutes later poked my head out to check it was gone.... my father's room had the same view as my bathroom. To my dismay, whatever-it-was was still there, in the same spot... very clear as although it was dark there was plenty of ambient light from the urban landscape and the size of the craft was marked by the fact it was directly above a huge apartment block that spanned horizonally rather than vertically ala NYC. It was at least 100ft in length. I kept hiding and checking for it cause I just wanted it to go away for the next hour and it took a long time to finally disappear.

Dazed and tired, I went to school the next day and got ridiculed when I tried to confide my story but although I haven't seen anything since there were tonnes of stange things that happened to me at night in that apartment, including electronic humming when I got older that was so loud in the middle of the night (coming from outside) that I could hear it over the stop of my stereo. By then I was living alone. I never went on the roof or anything to investigate, all I knew was that it wasn't the heating system and it was scary. I moved to NJ and when I mentioned my story to a close friend, he told me that when he was a teenager, him and another boy both saw the same strange crafts on the Jersey Shore but they never reported it to anyone for obvious reasons. I don't really tell anyone either, it's not worth arguing with people when I know what I saw.

Yeah, I think that is why I did not report what I saw. I was so close to the military base that I knew radar would/should have detected it, or at least a visual confirmation of what I was seeing. So I just waited to hear the reports, which never came.

Yes, given the chance that only 25% of the reports on ATS represent valid reporting, and of those if even 5% are witnessed or confirmed by someone in authority, that means they would know a lot. A LOT !!! Time for them to come clean about this, unless they know from some source of information we do not have access to that there is a reason they should not be confirming this. They are TOO quiet !!! and that gives me the creeps.

Hopefully someone professional can come to West Java (Indonesia), no, im not talking about Paranormal with mantra & psychic power, cos we have A LOT of them here..) but someone who have excellent skill and equipment to investigate the matters, so it can be understandable with logic by other people.

Maybe you shouldn't report anything!
Look what happened to this witness of the triangle UFO in Belgium in 1991.

Yes, the video clip does imply that a great deal of trouble (and possible harm?) resulted from what looks like a typical capture on media of a UFO. But it seems to me that in this case more effort went into a suspicious set of acts for something that is not truly uncommon these days of ubiquitous video. I ask again why the urgency for such an effort when enough UFO sightings are generally ignored or denied. Good documentation.

The range of sightings with the various styles of unknown crafts imply that more than one species of ET may be out there, and they obviously visit more than one part of our world. And while more than one government is involved, don't they all seem to participate in this coverup. And while the British have released some records, and we hear about forthcoming disclosures, nothing happens.

Are we in fact just waiting for Klaatu to land on the White House lawn; only he is late for his appointment? And do our governments know something that makes them basically fearful of this?

If your from Ireland or the surrounding waters you can report sightings via www.ufoi.org... we are running research into places of interest that seem to generate more sighting reports than other locations and also looking into the factors behind each of these sights and relationship between them.

For the first time in weeks the sky was crystal clear last night here in my little corner of Northern California and I was watching the night sky last night around 8:00 just looking at the stars when I noticed an aircraft flying overhead, nothing unusual since there's usually a lot of air traffic here. I decided to get my binoculars and watch it. I noticed the craft was circular shape and a few of its lights were flashing. I just watched it fly in a straight line for a minute or so. It wasn't flying very fast, no faster than any other aircraft. It was heading west. I blinked and it was suddenly heading north. I went to get my camera and less than 10 seconds later when I came back it was completely gone. There wasn't a cloud in the sky it could have hid behind. It was just gone. I don't know what it was, was an it Alien? I doubt it. Interesting nonetheless.

where I live in Australia you see them every night. Locals know about it. no one cares.

There was one video but phage supposedly debunked it years ago.

it was of the Picton NSW UFO.

you dont beleive its real Phage? come have a look for yourself!

Some nights its a clear sky, not a single cloud, then a flash of lightning, and no sound. You sit back and watch for a few hours, you might be lucky enough to see 'stars' re arrange themselves.

I saw a jet fighter scramble once... out where I live there are also strange government buildings other than that of the local council or police. All the windows blacked out, and its not your normal office.

It's a dead quiet country town which is supposed to be the most 'haunted' in Australia. All I know is that why does a small little country town need so many federal police and government workers?

Hello everyone.

Im a new member that is trying to gather information and would really appreciate if anyone with good knowledge could help me out. Im trying to put some loose pices together to form a clearer picture.
From what I gather, during the 20th century specifically. Tesla claims to have contacted people from outter space.
Roosevelt in the 30's made contact with aliens and signed a treaty: tech for flesh.
Then Roswell happened causing the majestic 12 to be formed which later turned into the CIA who have been running the government through military strategies.
During the 30's nuclear technologie was discovered and tested? Does anyone know if it relates to aliens?
Can anyone throw in any other information to this.
It would be much appreciated.

Australia.

I saw a UFO last night 8th january 2010 and have taken a picture of it on my blackberry. It looked like a jewel in the sky to the naked eye, but in the picture it looks like a disc with a bank of lights below it>
I saw a plane being followed by a bright light and this is what caught my eye, though this wasn't the one i photographed.
There is thick snow here in Kent where i saw it. Did anyone else see it? This was over in Hoo, eNGLAND.

Hi Im new here so im not sure if this is where I should put this, I just saw something weird outside. Me and my girl friend were smoking outside and had a light flashed down on us, we both thought it was a helicopter spotlight and looked up and saw what looked kinda like a shooting star move out in space, but the light was so bright. It looked like someone took a flash picture of us from space. Can anyone tell me what this could be?
