CNN: Maybach shows 700-hp concept car
May 12, 2005
Maybach, DaimlerChrysler's ultra-high-end luxury car brand, unveiled a 700-horsepower twin-turbocharged V12 concept car in Berlin today.
The Exelero is an updated version of a car created in 1938 for Fulda. That car was based on a model by the original Maybach car company, also a maker of high-end luxury cars. The original Maybach company stopped making cars during World War II, but continued to make large engines, including those used in the German Army's Tiger Tanks.
Tested on a high-speed track in Italy, the long two-door, two-seat Exelero achieved a top speed of about 218 miles per hour, the company said. There are no plans to introduce a production version of the car.
