Fox News is reporting that the White House and the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. are being evacuated, military jets in area.

No explanation on why as of yet...

Edit:

FAA is tracking unidentified plane entering Washington restricted airspace.

According to some Senators there is an airline reported to be minutes away from the capitol.

This just happened recently also, didn't it? Weird sense of deja vu here...

Showing as breaking news on CNN...

It appears that the all clear has been given, apparantly just a small plane that was off course.

I bet that won't be pretty for the pilot...

Man, there is lots of "False Alarms" these days, huh?

Is Somebody trying to Tell us Something, or what?

Remember when someone crashed a plane into the White House in the 90's? They'd go apesh** if someone did that now. I can imagine FOX News: "Should all small airplanes be banned?"

I hope serious consideration is going into these evacuations as it is typical for people to become complacent if they are constantly told to evacuate and then a few minutes later are told it was a false alarm. You may start to see people evacuate the buildings slower and slower and eventually may even have some people that just don't leave.

Its not exactly a false alarm when there is actually a plane in restricted airspace.

In your opinion when would have been the proper time to sound the alarm , right after the plane had struck if it had intentions of doing so?

This would make sense considering the fact the Reagan national Airport is literally right there....minutes away from the Capitol.

It was an extremely small Cessna 2-seater private plane, but it did get within 3 miles of the White House and 4 miles of the Capitol. The airplane is now on the ground in Maryland and the pilot is in custody and being questioned.

Actually aircraft always enter restricted airspace in the DC area.....there are many large airports and even more small commuter airports.

I read an article awhile back that said this happens all the time and most of the time the pilots are contacted by radio and instructed to leave and the do leave so the public never and has np reason to know about it.

I beleive that this case is different because maybe authorities got response from the aircraft....or maybe the pilot said sounded very
"different".

The pilot was not responding via radio and apparently turned back towards the capitol even after having a warning flare fired near it by an F-16 escort.

I do not know about the pilot but the aircraft is owned by VINTAGE AERO CLUB

Aircraft was in a non-fatal accident back in 79

until a plane crashes into my house, I ain't skeered.

Constant State of fear, lol.

IMO Bushs own people might "sacrifice" him to enforce a police state.

Of course the boss, I mean Cheney would kill Bush, then he would finally not only control the country, but be given credit for being so. So what's the big deal? I doubt a small airplane like that could even scratch the paint let alone do damage.

I just watched them discussing on MSNBC whether or not the plane should be shot down. As a pilot myself this really amuses me, I believe I heard it was a Cessna 152, if that's the case the MAX it would weigh is 1670, and that's right after taking off, so there's no way it would weigh that much at that point in time, how much damage would a plane that light holding no more than 26 gallons of AVGAS actually do? They obviously knew it was a 152 as they had jets scrambled, so why cause such a panic among the people in the crowd. If a terrorist wanted to crash it into the white house, evacuate that wing of the house and let them knock themselves out, repairing the damage to the white house would cost less than the bloody missile they'd use to take it down. Obviously though, it's more fun to scare the masses.

EricM, good input but I don't think it's just the plane itself they are concerned over, but the thought that the plane has something in it...
like a bomb, or some type of weapon..chemical, bio....who knows.

I doubt that's the case....just throwing that out for thought
