Just heard from a friend while discussing the pine gap base, that during the cold war, one of the prime targets for nukes in the event of a nuclear war was a site just south of hobart, tasmania. The only two sites i can think of that would be of ANY goverment interest to anybody there would be the antarctic division's research labs, and the ionespheric research station, which both sound like pretty unlikely targets for nukes. Being a small island state, we could pretty much kiss our asses goodbye down here if a nuke or two was sent out way... any ideas as to what we actually have here that would be a target?

Maybe Tasmanian Devil's?

No, seriously, I can't see a place which would have justified a nuke, but... Don't know tasmania good enough to tell you if there's a secret base under it!
