PAPER TRAIL: A member of the Committee of Free Prisoners examines files of Iraqis imprisoned and executed under Hussein.
NIKO PRICE/AP

From Iraq's secret files, a trail of mass murder

By Peter Ford | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

BAGHDAD Packed tightly into filing-cabinet drawers, stuffed roughly into burlap bags, piled hastily into cardboard boxes, the mountains of files filled four US Army flatbed trucks. Some of the former Iraqi regime's darkest secrets lay exposed to the bright light of the Baghdad sun.

Over the past few days, the US Army has taken custody of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi secret-police files. The dossiers -

an impeccable detailing of two decades of mass murder reminiscent of the meticulous recordkeeping of Hitler's Germany or Stalinist Russia - could contain crucial evidence in any trial that former President Saddam Hussein or his top officials might face.

The group of former prisoners who gathered the documents have so far gleaned the names of more than 5,500 prisoners who were executed, according to the files.

5.500 vs 6076 minimum as seen in my signature: this is going to have some resemblances to Bush vs Gore votes...

Hey, know what happened in Iraq with other prisoners? They were released! Saddam released as many as he could through calls/orders to the prisons to let as many loose as possible. Why? Force the Coalition to deal with them. Of course, in Iraq making a Saddam joke is enough for death, so the prisoners did what? Sneezed in his presence?

Anyways, this is actually a sound system of defense. If you know you will lose, why not make things as hard on your enemy as possible? Like scorched earth technique. You leaving the area, burn/take/destroy anything. Nothing left for enemies. Or if invading, do same to leave nothing for the people you invaded when you fall back.

Of course, NWO probably got Saddam weeks ago. Just say he at large to keep the war machine running. More war needed, more money made for the people who make weapons, more time spent on refining weapons. Or the other approach, have a weapon/plane/tank you want to use, yet so advanced people would wonder where it came from. But with a war, well."We made this so it could do this, which is important for in the conditions in the country we are fighting in, normal weapons.....blah blah blah."
