Is the United States a country that is, indeed, the "home of the Free"?

I have read enough posts on ATS/BTS to come to believe that many people throughout the world -- especially Americans -- no longer believe that the U.S. is a free country. Is this true? When some Americans say that the United States is the "free-est country in the world" is it true or is it just lip service? Is the concept of American freedom just something that has been indoctrinated into the psyche of the average American?

Most people on here do not represent the average American, as this is an Internet site dedicated, at least mainly, to conpiracies and government cover-ups, it's not surprising that many here have those beliefs. I, for one, don't share them though.

Doesn't sound like you have much reason to be on a board like this if you don't subscribe to any conspiratorial beliefs. What is the attraction for you then?

I don't subscribe to the beliefs that the U.S. government is becoming oppressive and we are no longer free. Now alien cover-ups etc., I'm not so sure about....
