Yes, sure.... It seem you never used the 5.56 mm, isn't it ?

Considering that modern residential housing is only a sparse 2x4 stud and 1/2 inch thick drywall, yeah, .223 will go through it, at least at point blank range. Indeed, the Israelis with thier new Tovar assault rifle understood this problem and the unintended casualties, so they are ressurecting the ancient .30 carbine round... Because of less penetration.

1/2 inch thick drywall ?????????
What kind of house is it ???????
I never saw such a house. My drywalls are 6 inch thick and the external walls are 10 inch thick. 5.56, or even 7.62 will not go through my walls. You would have to have a 12.7 mm.

Valhall

Mistress of the non-sequitur.

I understand.

Will everyone else?

How do your lips feel after that?

A short leap in time.

A gathering of ATS people in the midwest, some heretofore unknown to you, you're grilling.

Some maniac (not me or anyone I care to suggest) under provocation has started showing aggressive, almost violent tendencies in support of some conspiracy argument. Reaches behind back and appears to be pulling something out of holster or rear of pants...

What do you do?

After you've done what you've done, you find out it is a facsimile of an ancient scroll of some sort.

What do you do now?

Thought I might inject it here rather than on the ATS Convention thread...

A very good question, one that they work on at Thunder Ranch. There have been more than a few fatalities from situations similar to what you describe, which is very much a shame. However, in that situation, you go from self defence to homicide in a split second.

It is a judgement call, and one you can only make in the split second that you see events unfolding in front of you. There are a number of small predictors you are trained to look for, but its a moot point to bring them up. Suffice to say, if I felt uncomfortable to the point of worrying about physical safety at such a gathering, either I or the other person would not be there.

Like this...

But also, I wanted to throw in that there would probably be a number of fine, upstanding ATS members that would be more than willing to keep the ancient scroll under their protective custody, until FM got to feeling better at least.

Good, caring responses about the people (and the scroll).

I have no visions of homicidal maniacs at ATS, at the same time as having a vested interest in my personal security.

Same as for anyone lining up an 'internet date' I guess!

If I go to the ATS Amsterdam meeting, I'll be armed to the teeth. A mini-uzi, a Colt pistol 9 mm, many clips and probably 1 or 2 handgrenade and a commando knife. Hey, may be that Zion Mainframe is a psychopath who want to kill us all. Who knows ?

Valhall, if you ask me for an internet date, you'll be safe.
I'm a gentleman you know. A well armed gentleman, of course, but still a gentleman.

Looks like some people might have called B.S. on your post?!

So far MaskedAvatar and Ultra_Phoenix can't get a date because they are either too security-conscious or they go under the guise of heavily armed gentlemen.

Keep in mind that my favorite actor is Clint Eastwood

h-ah, I know what you're thinking punk. You're thinking did he fire six shots or only five? And to tell you the truth I've forgotten myself in all this excitement. But being this is a .44 Magnum - the most powerful hand gun in the world and will blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question--Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk!

So Zion Mainframe, you think that I'm a punk ? Now you can be sure, I'll come armed to the teeth and the heart full of revenge. Your countdown has started.

I don't think people called BS on this question. Of course, by and large the responders to this stated they would protect their families from harm.

Thinking about this issue every once in a while, IMHO, is a worthy effort because it gets us to think about what it would be like if we COULDn't protect our families. And I just don't ever want to be there, really, I don't.
